Amidst reports that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse may be delayed, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller confirm that they're willing to do so if they must.

Per ComicBook, the producing duo was queried on whether the highly-anticipated threequel will meet its expected release date of March 29, 2023. "I would say that just like we're going to take the time necessary to make Beyond the Spider-Verse great," Lord said. Miller continued on to say that they "won't back into a release date that doesn't fit." This comes after an animator on the first film, writing under the pseudonym "Stephen" insisted that the third film in the acclaimed series won't make that deadline.

"I've seen people say, 'Oh, they probably worked on it at the same time.' There’s no way that movie’s coming out then," Stephen wrote. "There's been progress on the pre-production side of things. But as far as the production side goes, the only progress that's been made on the third one is any exploration or tests that were done before the movie was split into two parts." Stephen further explained that the production of Across the Spider-Verse was severely damaging to many animators, claiming the working conditions left many contributors burnt out. Sony has yet to respond to these claims at the time of writing.

Beyond the Spider-Verse Remains a Mystery

As for what awaits Miles Morales in Beyond the Spider-Verse, the creative team behind the franchise is unwilling to disclose any information. When asked about where the story could lead and how the threequel will build on Across' cliffhanger ending, co-director Kemp Power insisted that he can't say anything. "[P]eople are so desperate for information, and everything kind of ends up getting misread or misquoted. I've been sworn to silence. As soon as you say Beyond the Spider-Verse, my mouth closes," Powers said.

One person who's already voicing his thoughts on who should feature in Beyond is star Oscar Isaac, who plays Miguel O'Hara aka Spider-Man 2099. The Marvel veteran noted that Pedro Pascal would be a great addition to the franchise, even pitching what kind of Spider-Man he'd play. "They're so brilliant at finding the right person for the right character, but maybe Pedro Pascal. Let's find something for him. He should be a Spider-Person, like a cranky, old Spider-Person."

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is currently still slated to premiere on March 29, 2023.
