A dress worn by the late Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope was auctioned for up to a projected $2 million.

Per Propstore Auction, bidding for the original ceremonial dress that Fisher wore in A New Hope reached $750,000 before the bidding ended on June 28, with the dress projected to sell somewhere in the region of $1-2 million. The dress was worn in the final scene of Episode IV where Princess Leia bestowed Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) with medals of honor after destroying the Death Star. However, the dress went unsold, with the highest bid being $975,000.

The dress is one of the most prized memorabilia of Propstore's three-day auction, from June 28-30. Star Wars: Episode IV is regarded as one of the most influential films of its generation, with a box office return of over $700 million against a budget of just $11 million. Princess Leia's dress is believed not only to be her last surviving dress from the film but was long believed to no longer be in existence. Recovered from a London attic, the dress was restored over an 8-month period as Propstore state that all modifications were "carried out to top archival standards and [are] therefore fully reversible."

Princess Leia's dress is just one of the 1486 other lots in Propstore's auction. It features alongside nearly 200 Star Wars memorabilia such as signed posters by Hamill, from which, as reported earlier, will see the proceeds donated to fund the Ukrainian war effort. Further Star Wars memorabilia such as Qui-Gon Jinn's (Liam Neeson) replica blade from Episode I - The Phantom Menace as well as an original lightsaber from his padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) are up for grabs.

Propstore's auction marks an exciting opportunity for fans to merge the past with the present. Bids for The Pope's Exorcist's Russell Crowe's screen-matched Hero Dress Cuirass from Gladiator currently sit at $40,000. Additionally, Ford, who marks his final appearance as Indiana Jones' titular character sees his outfit from Blade Runner from over 30 years ago reach $65,000 on 3 bids.

Some fans may be curiously watching how the auction pans out given the priciest items have not yet reached their reserve price. Time is currently running out, with Batman's Batpod from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (estimated $1-2M), Princess Leia's ceremonial dress, Evil Clown Doll from Poltergeist ($200-400k), and a Back to the Future replica light-up full-size DeLorean ($150-300k) have not met their reserve and thus will not currently be sold.
