For most people, volleyball is just a sport, but when it comes to the Haikyuu!! volleyball players, it's a matter of life and death.

When new manga chapters come out, spoilers will inevitably flood social media about devastating events that have transpired or characters d-wording, but some genres like sports manga rarely have these. Haikyuu!! fan kdadshiuimi (@/hoshiumisexy) reminisced on the time when the manga was still releasing new chapters, joking that spoilers from the manga usually consisted of "'atsumu passes the ball to meian'" and it's like ok... thanks..." After thinking for a minute, the fan retracted their statement, heatedly recounting the time when they had been spoiled about a character's return, saying "i was like 'what the fuck man. this is worse than seeing your wife on the day of your wedding before the ceremony. shut the fuck up!!'"

Other Haikyuu!! fans jokingly disagreed with kdadshiumi's initial tweet. One fan wrote how seeing two characters reuniting in Brazil "was like the end of the world for me." Another supplied with their experience at seeing one body part of a key player from Seijoh: "seeing oikawa's back was so genuinely devastating to me." Many others took issue with kdadshiumi's claim that Haikyuu!! wasn't a series "where anyone dies" with one writing, "the daichi death erasure was uncalled for" and "how can you say nobody dies when i'm still mourning daichi..." Others pointed out that something as simple as passing or blocking the ball has very real consequences on character's journeys and development as well as the outcomes of the match.

What Is Haikyuu!! About?

One of the most beloved sports manga of all time, Haikyuu!! follows the journey of Shoyo Hinata, from the moment he sets his eyes on his first volleyball match on TV to entering Karasuno High School as the volleyball team's middle blocker. Although he dreamed of becoming the next Little Giant, that dream may be far from his reach, but with the help of his teammates and partner genius setter Tobio Kageyama, Hinata finds another way to fly high.
