The scope of the Marvel Universe usually results in plenty of characters having unique interpersonal relationships with one another. Some heroes may not see eye to eye, but others can become teammates, strike up close friendships, and even form romances within different pockets of the worlds. Some of the best of these connections can be a bit unexpected, and helps flesh out different corners of the universe.

The friendship between Wolverine and Captain Marvel is one such bond, with the two's connection even predating their more famous superhero identities. Their friendship has always been a sweet element to both characters, and it's been used to flesh out Logan's past and give Carol someone to rely on even in her lowest moments. It's one of the most underrated friendships in the Marvel Universe, and would be a great way to help establish Logan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How Wolverine & Captain Marvel Became Friends

Wolverine Captain Marvel Friendship 2

Logan and Carol Danver's friendship goes back a long ways, even before either of them were superheroes. The two worked together while carrying out espionage missions for their respective governments, developing a friendship and working relationship. Carol would later help Nick Fury keep Logan out of the hands of nefarious forces like HYDRA, as seen in Wolverine # 1 (by Larry Hama, Cary Nord, Scott Hanna, Joe Rosas, Richard Starkings, Comicraft, and Emerson Miranda).

While recovering from losing her powers to Rogue, Carol stayed with the X-Men and fought alongside them against the Brood. Wolverine's initial dislike for Rogue largely stemmed largely from her attack on his friend instead of her villainous past. The two's friendship was reinforced during Logan's time with the Avengers, which formally made the pair teammates and gave them plenty of opportunities to engage with one another.

Captain Marvel and Wolverine Should Be Friends In The MCU

Wolverine Captain Marvel Friendship

Wolverine and Captain Marvel being close friends is a fun element to both characters, speaking to their deeper histories in the world and similar personalities. The two have always been able to open up to one another, and Logan's defensive nature of her speaks to the kind of loyalty that would come to define the character. It's the kind of bond that would be well-served to bring to the MCU, which would be a benefit for both characters. Their partnership has always lent itself to a fun rapport, with the two able to communicate on a level that few others can match. Whereas most MCU characters bristle against each other during early meetings, Carol and Logan getting along just fine (and even being friends before the present day MCU) could pave the way for human/mutant relations. Their shared experiences speaks to both of their adaptability with different story beats, and they can reinforce this by working together both behind-the-scenes and in bigger battles.

For Carol, this would be a good way to give her an Earth-bound friend who nevertheless understands her potential divide from the rest of humanity. For Logan, this provides a simple and straightforward way for his long life to be introduced naturally, revealing that the character hadn't aged since Carol's disappearance in the 1990s and subtlely hinting at how his healing factor gives him a longer lifespan. Flashbacks and backstory could flesh out their friendship, and their friendship surviving into the present day could create a key component between the MCU Avengers and the inevitable big-screen treatment of the X-Men. Bringing Wolverine and Captain Marvel's friendship to the big screen would be an ideal turn for both characters, and could be a useful tool for the MCU going forward.
