New Comics This Week From Marvel: June 28, 2023

Carnage Reigns comes to a close within Marvel's new comics this week.

Beginning with the one-shot Carnage Reigns: Alpha #1, Carnage Reigns is a crossover between the series Carnage, Miles Morales: Spider-Man and Red Goblin. In the event, the heroes Miles Morales and Iron Man team up with Red Goblin and villains like Scorpion and Taskmaster to stop Carnage, who is in possession of the Extrembiote armor Tony Stark created during Marvel's King in Black event. Carnage stole this symbiote-infused suit during Marvel's Extreme Carnage saga released in 2021. Carnage Reigns wraps up with the one-shot Carnage Reigns: Omega #1 by writer Cody Ziglar, artists Julius Ohta and Rogê Antônio, sending Tony and Miles (now sporting his own Iron Spider armor) into a final bout with the titular villain.

Carnage Reigns isn't the only Marvel story coming to an end on Wednesday though. Written by Torunn Grønbekk with art by Sergio Dávila and Juan Gedeon, Thor #35 marks the conclusion of the series launched in Jan. 2020. In this title, the God of Thunder has faced a variety of foes, including Galactus, the Hulk, his former human host and even his own hammer, just to name a few. Along with the hero battling Doctor Doom, Thor #35 is set to reveal the true origin of Hela, the Goddess of Death. The issue will be followed by Thor Annual #1 in July, which prepares fans for writer Al Ewing and artist Martín Cóccolo's Immortal Thor series launching in August.

Outside the finales of Carnage Reigns and Thor, readers are about to learn the origin of one of Marvel's newest villains: the Scoundrel. First appearing in She-Hulk #11, writer Rainbow Rowell and artist Andrés Genolet's She-Hulk #14 is set to reveal the "secret history" of this super thief, who has been besting (and flirting with) She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters since he debuted. For collectors, She-Hulk #14 also marks the Scoundrel's first cover appearance. This villain has been stealing technology from the Fantastic Four as part of some job, but the reason why is still unknown as of writing.

As for Marvel's other new comics, the miniseries Silver Surfer: Ghost Light ends while Captain America: Symbol of Truth #14 appears to mark the series' conclusion as well. Peter Parker fights an upgraded Doctor Octopus in The Amazing Spider-Man #28, and the one-shot X-Men: Before the Fall - Heralds of Apocalypse #1 continues to prepare X-Men fans for Fall of X.
