Spider-Man's unexpected sidekick is officially stepping into his own ongoing series.

In a June 26 announcement from Marvel Comics, the publisher revealed that Bailey Briggs, better known as Spider-Boy, will be web-slinging his way into his very first ongoing series from co-creator and writer Dan Slott and artist Paco Medina. The first issue is set to follow up after the events of 2023's "The End of the Spider-Verse" story arc, which introduced Spider-Boy to the rest of the Marvel Universe while also establishing his precedent as the latest "long-forgotten" character to inhabit it.

Introduced in Spider-Man #7, which was written by Slott and Spider-Boy co-creator Mark Bagley, the character entered the Marvel Universe after being seemingly born out of nothing following the Web of Life and Destiny being rewoven. While this also returned the Peter Parker fans know best to his usual self, it set the stage for his "long-lost" sidekick to be lost in a world that no longer remembers him.

"Spider-Man isn't supposed to have a sidekick. That's just wrong on so many levels. And that is exactly why we are going to have so much fun with this," Slott said of the series. "Bailey Briggs is going to have over-the-top adventures in the Spider-Man corner of the Marvel Universe... Our goal is to get every reader to ask two questions: 'What in the hell did I just read?!' and 'When is the NEXT one coming out?!'"

Medina gave fans some insight of his own as to what they can expect from the upcoming series, noting that the character has provided some major opportunities in terms of what Spider-Boy will look like as a series. "Aesthetically, there's so much to do with him. Every character gets their action poses to be their personal signature. This time, I'm working on something cool and specific for Spider-Boy, something that gives him a light of his own." Medina also commented on Slott's "limitless imagery," which allows the title's creative team extra room to dig into who Bailey is and what he is capable of as the latest Spider hero to grace the Marvel Universe.
