The following contains major spoilers for Green Arrow #3, on sale now from DC Comics.

The most tragic death in the Green Arrow mythos has been rewritten, and Oliver Queen is at the center of it all.

While his other allies do their best to get to the bottom of his disappearance on Earth, the titular hero of Green Arrow #3 by writer Joshua Williamson, artist Sean Izaakse, and colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr. finds himself face-to-face with none other than the Legion of Superheroes in a future far from home. Alongside them is none other than his own son Connor, who is quick to wonder just how Oliver and the young Lian Harper ended up where they are today. As the latter explains, things began with her apparent demise. While previously it was believed that Lian had suffered a tragic fate in her youth, it is instead revealed that she was thrust through time and space without any control over her trajectory, and all because of Amanda Waller and the Green Arrow himself.

Green Arrow and Lian Harper reunion.

First introduced in the pages of 1986's New Teen Titans #21 (by Marv Wolfman and Eduardo Barreto), Lian Harper is the daughter of Roy Harper, better known as Arsenal, and Jade Nguyen, the villainous Cheshire. The original iteration of Lian was murdered by the Electrocutioner in a plot masterminded by Prometheus. While the attack struck the Green Arrow family at their core, it also spelled the villains' own doom, as Roy took it upon himself to end the Electrocutioner's life while Oliver killed Prometheus in turn.

Lian Harper's Complicated History

The current iteration of Lian first returned under the name Shoes as a young thief in Gotham City as seen in the pages of 2020's Catwoman #25 by writer Ram V and artist Fernando Blanco. Eventually, Lian would take up the mantle of the Cheshire Cat in a nod to both her mother and Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, who offered her invaluable assistance as a mentor and partner of sorts during Lian's stay in Gotham. When Roy learned that Lian was still alive during the events of DC's Infinite Frontier, his fellow Titans resolved to help him find his long-lost daughter, something which only happened recently and, unfortunately for them, the two were separated once more by yet another bout of unexpected time-travel.
