When the X-Men and their fellow Mutants moved to the nation of Krakoa, they announced to the world that they were more than an advancement of the human genome. Moreover, they proved that they could benefit the world as a nation. They protected the innocent with their X-Men and offered medicines that could abate or outright cure many complex diseases. To celebrate their advancements, Krakoa decided it was best to showcase their future endeavors in a more public forum with the Hellfire Gala.

The Hellfire Gala, much like the Met Gala, was an event where invited guests could show off their most fashionable and creative attire. Beyond that, the event also served as a means to show transparency among Mutants and humans. At each gala, they announced the next X-Men team as well as new offerings Krakoa had for the world. That said, over the three years these galas have been in effect, the risk has slowly started to outweigh the benefits. As the third Hellfire Gala approaches, it could very well become Krakoa's last.

The First Hellfire Gala Was A Mutant Victory

The first Hellfire Gala was a massive success in terms of setting up how various events would set up the coming year of X-Men stories. However, one of the best things that the gala introduced was the constant gossip that would happen between characters behind the scenes.

From potential saboteurs using Krakoan tech to create an international incident to the mistrust of what certain Mutants may do with their newfound political power, anything was possible. A great example of this was how Tony Stark, always the suspicious type, chose to enter the island on his own accord without using portals, since he wasn't sure their tech was as safe as they claimed.

The Second Hellfire Gala Held Many Revelations

When the first Hellfire Gala ended, it set a precedent that Krakoa could find a place in the world, even with such massive strides like terraforming and claiming Mars as Arakko. However, the secrets they had kept, like their resurrection system, eventually were exposed just before the second gala.

With this truth now revealed, the Hellfire Gala turned into a chess game that involved Krakoans trying to put out fires while literally staring their enemies in the face. To make matters worse, foes like Moira MacTaggert used innocent civilians like Mary Jane Watson against their will to fulfill their goals. Ultimately, the second Hellfire Gala was still a success on paper, but it also proved to be a precursor to the problems that might have set up Krakoa's downfall.

This Hellfire Gala Will Ignite the Fall Of X

The third Hellfire Gala hasn't officially announced its events, though it's been described as the beginning of the end for the Mutant nation. With Fall of X on the way, it would seem that this coming Hellfire Gala could be the last. However, it could also represent a violent rebirth for the mutant nation that will shift what Professor X and his associates had introduced. Considering the first three years of Krakoa were built on lies and secrets, ending this current phase may be the best course of action.

For now, nothing has confirmed whether Krakoa will survive Fall of X, though all points have led to the possibility that this Hellfire Gala, like the one before, will signal the end of their Mutant utopia. To make matters worse, past galas teased dangerous situations that later came to pass. As a result, setting up the Fall of X could mean the end of future Hellfire Galas. Increasing Mutantkind's public image and presence on the world stage painted huge targets on their backs. If Fall of X is more than a simple rebirth, Krakoa's destruction may force the X-Men and Mutantkind back into seclusion.
