Yamato's One Piece Debut

Introduced during the "Wano Country" arc, Yamato teams up with Monkey D. Luffy to defeat his father and the Beast Pirates. Many individuals expressed disappointment when he ultimately did not join the Straw Hat Pirates as he had quickly become a fan-favorite, placing 11th during the series' 7th popularity poll. In particular, Yamato greatly resonated with One Piece's fans who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community as he, alongside other prominent characters like Kikunojo and Bentham the Wild (aka Mr. 2 Bon Clay), are examples of the wide range of gender diversity within Eiichiro Oda's masterpiece.

Making its debut in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997, the ongoing One Piece manga has produced over 1,000 individual chapters. The story follows Luffy and his colorful crew as they adventure across the Grand Line in search of the titular hidden treasure. Oda recently confirmed that One Piece entered its endgame with the beginning of the "Egghead" arc, but also reassured readers that the narrative's epic conclusion won't happen anytime soon.

However, the information has ignited the imaginations of many fans, who have started theorizing about the answers to One Piece's remaining mysteries. Notably, the background of Red-Haired Shanks -- the pirate who gave Luffy his hat -- has become the focus of much speculation. In fact, recent panels from the manga have led some to believe the former member of the Roger Pirates may actually have deep connections to the evil Celestial Dragons.

Moreover, a popular fan theory asserts that Sir Crocodile, who was introduced as the primary antagonist of the Arabasta Saga, is Luffy's other biological parent, having given birth to the future King of the Pirates. While some fans disparage this claim heavily, the introduction of the Desert King's Seraph-counterpart in Chapter 1086, "The Five Elders" could finally confirm Sir Crocodile's status as a transgender man.

Oda's manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media, and Toei Animation's One Piece anime is available on Crunchyroll, Hulu and Netflix.
