Even though The Rings of Power Season 2 is still in the distant future, the series' cast and crew have been busy. They've been having plenty of discussions about the successes of Season 1 and the coming grandeur of Season 2. In interviews with CBR, Peter Mullins talked about the emotional truth involved in playing Durin III, while Owain Arthur and Sophia Nomvete talked about finding their Dwarven characters and their favorite scenes. Even composer Bear McCreary talked about bringing his musical magic to Middle-earth.

Another particularly prominent interviewee was Morfydd Clark. In her discussion with CBR, she dished on the emotional depth and complexity behind Galadriel. While her young version of the character didn't align with The Lord of the Rings version, it's clear that she will be growing into that regal figure as the series continues. While Galadriel's growth will be a prominent aspect of Season 2, something else that Clark said in a different interview could have major ramifications for the coming season.

Why Glorfindel Could Be Joining Season 2

Rings of Power Galadriel Numenorean Sword Fight

The Rings of Power Season 1 featured an excellent cast, and it's only going to grow in its sophomore campaign. Several new actors and actresses have already been announced, and more will probably be announced before the new season debuts. The real question is which characters those actors and actresses could be playing. While LOTR fans have a plethora of expectations, Morfydd Clark recently said something that made fans prick up their ears.

In an interview with Looper, Clark was asked which character could beat Galadriel in a fight. At first, she said that it's "all circumstantial. I like to think that, in a certain circumstance, [Galadriel] is unbeatable." However, upon further inquiry, Clark brought up the name Glorfindel. The fact that Clark thought to answer Glorfindel (who hasn't been on The Rings of Power) doesn't seem like a coincidence. It seems like a hint that he could be involved in Season 2.

Who Is Glorfindel in The Lord of the Rings?

Glorfindel as pictured on his card in The Lord of the Rings The Card Game.

Glorfindel is one of the most fascinating characters in LOTR because he was created by a Tolkien mistake. At first, Glorfindel was an Elf during the First Age. He fought in the Fall of Gondolin and sacrificed himself to defeat a Balrog. However, there was also a Glorfindel in The Fellowship of the Ring -- which took place in the Third Age. That was a problem because Elves never reused names as a sign of respect. So, to get around the mistake, Tolkien decided that the Valar would resurrect Glorfindel and send him back to Middle-earth, much like what happened to Gandalf.

Glorfindel's role on The Rings of Power doesn’t have much precedent. According to LOTR lore, he arrived back in Middle-earth midway through the Second Age with exceptional powers, but what he did between then and the Third Age was never defined. Thus, The Rings of Power could use the character however it wants without breaking lore. Hopefully, he will get to make his on-screen debut after being cut from The Lord of the Rings films.

The Rings of Power Season 2 doesn't have a release date. Season 1 is streaming now on Prime Video.
