Disney has released a lot of Star Wars information in recent days. Even with the ongoing writer's strike and universal delays, Disney confirmed release dates for three different movies from the galaxy far, far away. While fans are excited about the franchise's return to the cinema, they will still have to find Star Wars content on Disney+ for the foreseeable future. To that end, Ahsoka will likely impress with its mysterious villains, exciting locations and new aspects of the Force.

Along with Ahsoka, Lucasfilm has plenty of other series on the docket. The Mandalorian Season 4, Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte are just a few of the things that Star Wars fans have to look forward to. Amidst all of that anticipation, fans have also received some bad news. According to reports, The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 is not happening -- and that seems to indicate that Boba is no longer Star Wars' most popular bounty hunter.

Boba Fett's Popularity Couldn't Secure The Book of Boba Fett Season 2

Following his intimidating introduction in The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett was supposed to be the main villain in Return of the Jedi. Obviously, that role never materialized, and he was only a background character in the final version of the film. However, that wasn't the end of the character. After he fell into the Sarlacc Pit, Boba escaped and was the subject of multiple Legends storylines. All the while, he developed into one of Star Wars' most popular characters.

That's why so many people were excited to see that he was getting his own Disney+ series. It was confirmation that his canon character had survived his time in the Sarlacc Pit, and everyone wanted to know what he would do next. Unfortunately, The Book of Boba Fett was a bit of a disappointment. Fans expected to see the badass bounty hunter side of his character, but they were given a benevolent crime lord. It was unexpected, but it wasn't a detrimental development -- and it certainly didn't warrant cancelation before Season 2. Fans and cast were even speculating on what Season 2 would look like.

The thing is, canceling The Book of Boba Fett doesn't seem like a reflection of Boba's popularity because he can certainly carry his own series. Instead, it looks like a reflection of Disney's decision to promote a different bounty hunter: Din Djarin. Granted, Din Djarin is extremely popular. After all, it was The Mandalorian that spearheaded Star Wars' expansion into the world of television. However, it feels like Disney is taking a subtle shot at Boba.

Disney allowed Din Djarin to show up and hijack a whole episode of The Book of Boba Fett. It also declined to include Boba in The Mandalorian Season 3, even though it was all about Mandalorian history, being Mandalorian and Mandalore itself. Boba is supposedly part of Season 4, but in relegating him to a background role, it's clear that Disney is choosing Mando (the Disney-era bounty hunter) over Boba (the Lucas-era bounty hunter). Maybe Disney has a plan, and maybe none of this is aimed at Boba. But it certainly looks like he's continuing to get the short end of the stick. Hopefully, the original bounty hunter will be able to regain his title and get his due -- because right now, it looks like he's no longer Star Wars' most popular bounty hunter. And without a second season of The Book of Boba Fett, it might stay that way.
