Lucasfilm denied the validity of a rumored leaked title and synopsis of director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's upcoming Star Wars film.

Per Gizmodo, a false report detailing an abbreviated storyline of the upcoming Star Wars film featuring actor Daisy Ridley's Rey Skywalker was dismissed by a source from Lucasfilm, with the purported leak claiming that a movie called Star Wars: New Jedi Order was set to begin production sometime in April 2024. "Set roughly 15 years after Rey's victory over Palpatine and the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," the false synopsis reads. "The sequel delves into Rey's courageous endeavor to restore the Jedi Order, where she assumes the role of a mentor to two promising young students -- a girl and a boy. As their training progresses, it becomes evident that the girl possesses extraordinary abilities, destined to emerge as the future leader."

The Lucasfilm insider reportedly claimed the synopsis was largely false, with the only accuracy being that Obaid-Chinoy's upcoming Star Wars film will center on Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order. Gizmodo also revealed the film's rumored title Star Wars: New Jedi Order was similarly fabricated and was likely just a generalization of the film's central narrative. Some fans further speculated that the title might be a clever reference to Legends' The New Jedi Order novels, which the Del Rey publishing company printed between 1999 and 2003.

The Next Star Wars Sequel

Lucasfilm has remained secretive regarding Obaid-Chinoy's sequel for 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker since it was announced earlier this year. Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy confirmed Ridley will reprise her role as Rey Skywalker for the upcoming film but has yet to announce who will join her in revisiting the Star Wars galaxy.

"It was a pretty straightforward phone call," Kennedy said of Ridley's reaction after she was offered a chance to return for another Star Wars sequel. "I started out by just saying, 'Hey, I think we're getting near being ready.' We've been talking a lot about what we're doing in the movie space and I said, 'I think we're getting close to being ready. How would you like to go to [Star Wars] Celebration?' That was really the beginning of it. She was out of her mind excited."

Obaid-Chinoy's upcoming Star Wars film starring Daisy Ridley has yet to receive an official release date.
