Star Wars Rebels may not often be considered the top Star Wars animated show, but the series is incredible and introduced fans to the wonderful crew of the Ghost. Hera, Kanan, Ezra, Sabine, Zeb, and Chopper are stunning characters who further enrich the Star Wars universe. With the release of Ahsoka coming and multiple Rebels characters appearing, fans could use a reminder of what happened at the end of the series. Star Wars Rebels may have started as a show for kids, but not all characters received a happy ending.

The Ghost Crew in Star Wars Rebels was a close-knit group of freedom fighters who became one of the founding cells of the Rebel Alliance. Hera and Kanan were the foundation of the group, acting almost as the parents to the other members. Each member had their life destroyed by the Empire and was tired of doing nothing in the fight against tyranny. While their objective started small, it eventually grew, and they were instrumental in freeing Lothal from Imperial control. It's likely that Ahsoka will be bringing many of these characters to live action and will be reuniting members of the beloved crew.

What Happened to The Ghost Crew?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera in Star Wars: Ahsoka.

During the Galactic Civil War, the Ghost crew all worked together against the Empire. At first, they just fought as an independent cell working for the mysterious "fulcrum." Eventually, they became founding members of the Rebellion and fought on every front. The Ghost Crew even fought at the Battle of Scarif. Yet, the group was broken apart long before that. After Lothal was free, Hera continued to fight in the Rebellion until the galaxy was free. She also had a son, Jacen, whose father was Kanan Jarrus. Alongside her, Captain Rex fought and was on the ground for the Battle of Endor. Hera may have even fought over Exegol since the Ghost Crew was seen at that battle.

After the Battle of Jakku, Sabine returned to Lothal and took up residency in Ezra's old home. It wasn't until Ahsoka appeared that she was ready to head out into the galaxy to search for Ezra and Thrawn. Zeb worked to free Lothal, but after that, he began to focus more on his own people. He helped bring the survivors of his race to their new homes, making sure his people survived annihilation. After some time, though, Zeb joined the New Republic's Rangers. He served on the Adelphi Base during the events of The Mandalorian.

Kanan and Ezra Were Dealt Tragedies in Star Wars Rebels

Freddie Prinze Jr. voices the role of Kanan Jarrus in Star Wars Rebels.

Kanan Jarrus was the biggest casualty in the entire Ghost Crew. Towards the end of the Imperial Occupation of Lothal, Kanan sacrificed himself. He held back an explosion, allowing the rest of the crew to escape the danger. The Force even granted him his sight back so that he could see Hera one last time. Ezra's sacrifice quickly followed this. In order to remove the threat of Thrawn from the galaxy, Ezra called out to a group of Purrgil, who took Thrawn, Ezra and Thrawn's entire ship out into Unknown space. This is why Sabine, Hera, and Ahsoka are working to find Ezra and remove Thrawn once and for all.

The Ghost Crew were essential pieces of the Rebellion. Hera was an incredible leader who helped to save countless lives. Sabine, Zeb and Chopper were dedicated fighters who wanted nothing more than to see the galaxy free and at peace. And Kanan and Ezra brought the light of the Jedi and the Force back to the galaxy, even in small fragments. They all fought to bring the Empire down, and some of them will have to fight again in Ahsoka.

Ahsoka will start streaming on Disney+ on August 23, 2023.
