Black Canary has recruited a new team of female superheroes and anti-heroes for the newest Birds of Prey comic line-up. The new all-female superhero team will consist of Harley Quinn, Zealot, Cassandra Cain, Big Barda, and their leader Black Canary. The new comic series starring the super-group will release in September 2023.

While the Birds of Prey are a force to be reckoned with, comic history is riddled with teams of female superheroes who lead compelling storylines and take out the most dangerous villains in the galaxy or street-level crime that plagues their city. Regardless of who they fight, all-female superhero teams are as entertaining as they are powerful.

10 DC Bombshell Batgirls

3 DC Bombshells Batgirls with the 2 girls on the side walking away and the middle girl looking back

The Batgirls have had several iterations, but one of the best versions comes from the DC Bombshells series. The Batgirls defend Gotham from street-level crime in the 1940s as crime rises with the stress of World War II affecting those on the home front.

The team is a diverse group of orphans who want to make a difference but know they can't go off to war. As their name suggests, The Batgirls work closely with Batwoman and fill her shoes when she goes overseas. The Batgirls are the perfect example of age not making a difference in the change a person can bring about.

9 A-Force

She-Hulk in front of the A-Force

A-Force was a Marvel Comic team written by women starring a star student line-up of heroes. The A-Force was formed during Secret Invasion and continued as its series. With She-Hulk as the leader, Marvel heroes like Medusa, Rogue, and Captain Marvel came together to fight the forces of evil Skrulls that wanted to replace human life forms.

Many heroes on the team have already debuted in the MCU. This makes it likely that the A-Force will enter the MCU soon. But for now, the A-Force only uses their combined strength and power in their comic series.

8 Birds Of Prey

Black Canary, Harley Quinn, Cassandra Cain, Big Barda and Zealot lead DC's new Birds of Prey team.

The Birds of Prey are one of DC's best-known teams of superheroes and sometimes anti-heroes. The group has featured many of DC's leading ladies, with Black Canary being one of the founding members of the group. Barbra Gordon, Huntress, and Oracle frequently appear in the group's ever-changing lineup, which helps connect each group era to the previous one.

The newest version of Birds of Prey will feature Harley Quinn and Big Barda alongside Barbara Gordon as Batgirl and Big Barda. This collection of heroes is similar to the Birds of Prey featured in the DCEU. Regardless of who is in the groups, the Birds of Prey know how to take down Gotham's most notorious criminals and use their powers for good, even if they didn't start that way.

7 Dora Milaje

The Dora Milaje are the fiercest warriors in Wakanda. The all-female army protects King T'Challa and the Wakandan royal family from all threats. Besides being loyal, the Dora Milaje are skilled fighters that use hand-to-hand combat and spears to subdue their enemies.

Unlike other superhero teams, the Dora Milaje are not against taking a life if it means their King and Queen are safe. Since its inception, the Dora Milaje has been a diverse group, with several members belonging to the LGBTQ+ community. Despite being Black Panther's side characters, Dora Milaje commands attention and demands respect.

6 Femforce

Superhero teams from indie comics are often overlooked, but this doesn't mean they don't have notable teams. Femforce is a perfect example of an excellent all-female superhero team that needs more recognition. Like many other teams, the line-up of heroes in this group has changed.

Regardless of who is a part of Femforce, they are a powerful force enlisted by the government to help in war efforts and show that women are just as powerful as men. The Femforce has run over 200 issues with AC Comics and fought everyone from World War II Axis Powers to villains determined to take them out. Femforce is considered the first all-female superhero team.

5 Fearless Defenders

Fearless Defenders fight red ninjas and zombie vikings

The Fearless Defenders debuted in 2013 as one of the smallest hero teams for Marvel. With Valkyrie and Misty Knight being the only consistent members of the team, it is entertaining to see them take down hoards of enemies that should overpower them.

Even though the main team is made up of two characters, Misty and Valkyrie have many allies that help give them information and take out threats to themselves and humanity. Characters like Elsa Bloodstone step in to help the unlikely pair stop the Doom Maiden from wreaking havoc on New York City and beyond. Despite being a small team, the Fearless Defenders prove they are not to be messed with.

4 2013 X-Men

2013 All Female X-Men team poses in a pile of rubble

Usually pitched as a co-ed team, the X-Men contrasted their name by being made up of only female superheroes. Beloved characters X-Men Storm and Rogue welcome back Jubilee as she brings an orphan they swear to protect into their lives.

Psylocke, Marvel Girl, and Shadow Cat make up the rest of the team, with Domino joining in 2015. As a dynamic and diverse team of women, the 2013 X-Men showed they didn't need their male counterparts to stop evil from taking over the world. Seeing the female X-Men together on their own had been demanded by fans for many years and was welcomed by those who call them their favorite mutants.

3 Spider-Women

Cindy, Gwen and Spider-Woman pose side by side in Spider Women

The Spider-Women is one of the few hero teams that formed out of necessity and not by a preplanned initiative. When visiting Spider-Gwen, Silk, and Spider-Woman get sucked into a battle with S.I.L.K., who is trying to turn all Spider-kind into their own weapons of evil.

The unlikely partnership between the Spider-Women makes for an epic collaboration, not unlike that of the Spider-Men's multiversal MCU partnership in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Seeing each Spider-Woman use their unique skills in tandem makes for epic fight scenes and a fun storyline of friends becoming battle buddies.

2 The Amazons

Donna Troy and the Amazons fighting in DC's Paradise Lost

The Amazons have long been a part of Wonder Woman's origin story. As one of the strongest groups, the Amazons are not easily defeated and are often thought to be the descendants of the gods (depending on the storyline they are a part of) and Wonder Woman's greatest allies.

Unlike other superhero groups, the Amazons have always been a group and were not put together due to circumstances of government interference. The Amazons represent generations of women who lived independently and learned to protect themselves from the ways DC's human world.

1 Lady Liberators

She-Hulk and her Lady Liberators

The Lady Liberators may be Marvel's most fearsome-looking group of female heroes. With She-Hulk as their leader, the Lady Liberators have gotten a new reputation as heroes rather than a group controlled by Enchantress, which is how they started in 1970.

Much like A-Force, the Lady Liberators features heroes of past and present comics that are well-loved by comic readers, including Black Widow, Tigra, Susan Storm, Storm, and Thundra. This mix of powerful women hunts Red Hulk and shows that there is strength in numbers, especially when the numbers include super strong women.
