The iconic characters from DC comics might get a chance to be reincarnated into a new world thanks to Spy x Family's Wit Studio.
It was confirmed earlier in June that Wit Studios and Warner Bros. Japan would be teaming up to work on an isekai anime project. A recent tweet from source Tanuki Bingus (@SugoiBingus) alleges that this collaboration will be based on the DC Comics universe, featuring some of the brand's most well-known characters in an as-yet-undisclosed plot focusing on isekai tropes. This has not yet been officially confirmed, though more information is set to be unveiled at Anime Expo 2023 on July 3, 2023.
The project will be discussed during a panel at the previously mentioned Expo, starting at 10 a.m. PST in Los Angeles. This panel features a description on the Anime Expo website: "Guessing is over! Come and find out what really is the mysterious brand-new anime project produced by Warner Bros. Japan and WIT studio, one of the most celebrated anime studios in Japan. This anime will blow your mind with some of the familiar characters venturing into the ISEKAI world!"
Isekai stories are a common staple in the animanga industry, having grown in popularity throughout the years. The fantasy subgenre typically follows a character as they are transported to a completely different world, usually after dying in the real one. Some notable isekai projects include That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Overlord, Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation and The Eminence in Shadow. Additionally, an upcoming isekai manga will turn Spider-Man’s Doc Ock into a Japanese Schoolgirl.
Wit Studio is a reputable company known for producing a collection of popular anime. One of its most recent hits was Spy x Family, a comedy series about a spy who is forced to create a fake family to complete a mission. The anime became incredibly popular upon its release and recently revealed a trailer for its upcoming movie titled Spy x Family: Code White. Other notable projects from the studio include the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, Season 1 of Vinland Saga -- which was recently teased for Season 3 -- and Ranking of Kings.
Spy x Family follows a spy known as Agent Twilight, who takes on the alias of Loid Forger as he attempts to secure peace between the nations of Westalis and Ostania. He must do this by infiltrating the prestigious Eden Academy with the help of his newly adopted daughter Anya and wife Yor. However, just as Loid holds secrets, so too does his new family as Yor is an assassin and Anya is a telepath.
