The Witcher star Eamon Farren recently opened up about Cahir's character arc in Season 3, hinting that the Nilfgaardian commander is at a "turning point."

Farren, who has played Cahir since the Netflix fantasy show's first season, discussed Cahir's evolution in The Witcher's third season during a panel at MCM Comic Con London. "I think that this season, for Cahir especially, is very much the turning point," he said. "And you're going to see that... Cahir is breaking apart." Farren added that this reflects Cahir's portrayal in Andrzej Sapkowski's original Witcher novels and short stories, noting that "anyone that's read the books will know that [Cahir] makes a severe, huge arc through the whole series."

Cahir won't be the only character at a crossroads in The Witcher Season 3, either. According to leading man Henry Cavill, protagonist Geralt of Rivia will adopt a new attitude in the show's next batch of episodes, in large part due to his bond with his ward, Ciri (Freya Allan). "Geralt has been very nonchalant about these threats of war and famine and the end times [in previous seasons]," Cavill said. "He's like, 'Look. I've been there, done that. It's not the end times. It's just going to be another fight'... [but in Season 3] everyone is after Ciri. That changes his entire perspective on things."

Witcher Boss Promises More Faithful Season 3

Both Cahir and Geralt's emotional journeys will play out across a narrative inspired by Sapkowski's second full-length Witcher tome, Time of Contempt. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich recently promised fans that Season 3 will deliver "a much more direct adaptation" of its source material than Season 2, something she chalked up to Time of Contempt's action-oriented narrative being "so easily adaptable." Hissrich went on to say that Time of Contempt is her favorite Witcher book because it has "the biggest moving parts and big battles and exciting stuff."

In a separate interview, Hissrich further addressed fans' criticisms of The Witcher Season 2, insisting that some of these complaints will be addressed in Season 3. This includes the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), which the showrunner teased will be rekindled during scenes set at one of the Continent's major festivals, Beltane.

The Witcher Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Netflix. Season 3's two volumes are set to premiere on the platform on June 29 and July 27, 2023, respectively.
