The Witcher executive producers Steve Gaub and Tomek Baginski recently teased how the fan-favorite Netflix series will replace its lead character, Geralt of Rivia.

Speaking with Yahoo UK, Gaub revealed that the transition between Henry Cavill and Liam Hemsworth as Geralt will be "flawless" and will even pull from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. The EP teased that the forthcoming third season is "a very strong season for Henry, a great final run for him as Geralt. I think he left with his head held high and passing the reins as many franchises end up doing, passing a title character from one actor to another, and we're going to be in great hands with Liam." He continued, "We're looking forward to the new explorations of Geralt with a new person behind it, a new actor and a new face."

Baginski added that fans of the source material should be able to recognize the story they have drawn from to explain Cavill's exit from The Witcher. "I don't want to get too emotional, but it was a great journey to have Henry Cavill on this show and we will miss him," he said. "But, at the same time, we have a very, very good plan to introduce our new Geralt and our new vision for Geralt with Liam. "It's very lore accurate. It's very close to what was set out in the books and I think this change will be quite flawless." He finished by teasing that "it will be a new Geralt, it will be a new face for this character and I think it will also be very, very exciting to see."

Geralt of Rivia Is Getting a New Face

Hemsworth was announced to be replacing Cavill as Geralt in October 2022. In a statement, the actor praised Cavill for being "an incredible Geralt," admitting that he has "some big boots to fill." He added, "I'm honoured that he's handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf's blades for the next chapter of his adventure... [...] I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world." While Cavill is a passionate Witcher fan, he reportedly departed the Netflix series due to creative differences with the showrunners.
