Netflix’s The Witcher is based on Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy series of the same name, which was even made popular due to its best-selling video game adaptations. The series is currently led by Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan, who are portraying the respective roles of Geralt, Yennefer, and Princess Ciri. The ensemble cast also includes Joey Batey as Jaskier, Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Myanna Buring as Tissaia, and more.

What to Expect in Henry Cavill’s Final Season as Geralt of Rivia

The Witcher Season 3, which is expected to cover the events of Sapkowski's second novel Time of Contempt, will feature the trio hiding from various threats, such as monarchs, mages, and beasts who want to capture Ciri. The upcoming season serves as Cavill's final time playing the titular monster hunter, as it was previously announced that he won’t be returning for the Netflix series' follow-up installments. Cavill confirmed that viewers will meet a reformed Geralt in Season 3, as his character "changes his entire perspectives on things" since becoming a father figure to Ciri.

Replacing the Man of Steel actor is Hunger Games vet Liam Hemsworth, who has been tapped to portray Geralt in Seasons 4 and 5. In a previous interview, executive producer Steve Gaub expressed his excitement for the creative team’s vision for the next phase of the series. "I think he [Cavill] left with his head held high and passing the reins as many franchises end up doing, passing a title character from one actor to another, and we're going to be in great hands with Liam." Gaub said, "We're looking forward to the new explorations of Geralt with a new person behind it, a new actor and a new face."

Mecia Simson, who plays Elven sorceress Francesca Findabair, also assured viewers that Cavill’s exit isn't "going to affect the show that much" with regard to its storytelling. "I feel like the show is so big and there's so many elements to it that -- I just feel like everything is going to be okay," she said. "It'll be a nice transition and I think [Hemsworth] is going to do an amazing job."

The Witcher Season 3 Volume 1 premieres on June 29, followed by Volume 2 on July 27.
