Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently revealed that she desperately wants Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge to write a movie for the Disney-owned production company.

"I would give anything to have Phoebe write a film," Kennedy told Vanity Fair for its cover story on Waller-Bridge. "Whenever I’m talking to her, she’s deep into commitments with current deals, but I would bring her on to write a movie tomorrow." The Lucasfilm president, who recently worked with Waller-Bridge on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, also praised her gut instincts, stating, "There’s just an underlying confidence in the way she makes decisions about herself and her career. She has this insatiable desire to do it all, but you never get the feeling that it’s stressing her out. That’s the amazing thing. She’s just doing it with joy, and that’s very, very contagious."

Waller-Bridge is an English actor and screenwriter who is perhaps best known for creating and starring in the acclaimed comedy series Fleabag. She is also known for writing and producing the thriller series Killing Eve, starring in the second season of Broadchurch and contributing to the screenplay for Daniel Craig's final James Bond film, No Time to Die. Her most recent work is in Lucasfilm's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny where she plays the title character's goddaughter, Helena Shaw. Waller-Bridge is also currently developing a live-action Tomb Raider series for Amazon Prime.

Could Waller-Bridge Return to a Galaxy Far, Far Away?

While Kennedy did not mention which sort of movie she'd want Waller-Bridge to write, Lucasfilm is currently focused solely on expanding the Star Wars galaxy. Waller-Bridge has already dipped her toes into the beloved sci-fi franchise, having performed and voiced droid L3-37 in the 2018 film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. If she does end up working with Lucasfilm again, it will mark her third project for the production company.

What's Next for Star Wars?

Following the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Lucasfilm will shift its focus to several upcoming Star Wars projects, which are currently in various stages of development. In addition to the Disney+ series Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte, Star Wars is set to return to the big screen with three new films, including one set 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in the film, who will be busy re-establishing the Jedi Order. Other films in development include an untitled "Dawn of the Jedi" film and an untitled "New Republic" film, which will be written and directed by James Mangold and Dave Filoni, respectively.
