<![CDATA[The TMNT Have Officially Joined the Rest of the World]]> While the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have always lived on the fringes of society, they were never so far removed from it as when the walls surrounding Mutant Town went up. Now that they have come down, however, the heroes of the Splinter Clan can't help but be pulled into the outside world along with the rest of New York City's mutant population. Unfortunately, the Heroes in a Half Shell still don't know what life above ground really looks like, and it's beginning to seem like some of them never will.

<![CDATA[Crashing's Matthew Klein Talks New Collection and Book Tour]]> Superhero stories often focus on the grand, epic battles between heroes and villains. Brawls across rooftops and showdowns in the stars bring readers unbelievable sights of wonder and action. While these tales certainly have their place, sometimes stories that take things back to the ground are better suited to deliver the catharsis readers need. Such is the case with IDW's miniseries Crashing, written by Matthew Klein with art by Morgan Beem. Following ER doctor Rose Osler, the series takes readers into the high-stress environment of a hospital dealing with the fallout of heroes fighting villains.

Along the way, the event itself has developed into what might just be the biggest the Turtles have ever known, which makes it all the worse that the ending has just been spoiled, and all without giving readers any idea what actually happened.

<![CDATA[Star Trek Writers Usher in an Interstellar Day of Blood in Brutal ]]> Star Trek stories are often sci-fi tales of diverse individuals coming together to confront frightening phenomena and the vilest of villains. But what happens when the galaxy's most malicious malefactors unite behind the vicious doctrines of one charismatic individual? That question is currently being explored in IDW's Star Trek titles, where the enemy is a murderous cult known as the Red Path, led by the cloned Klingon Emperor, Kahless II and composed primarily of Klingon warriors. The Path's ranks are growing, and many of their members come from the galaxy's other great powers.

From its dark and violent original comic book to its multiple animated adaptations, each had its own wildly different interpretation of the characters, themes and setting. The franchise has proven time and time again that, like the Turtles themselves, its greatest strength is its versatility.

<![CDATA[Best TMNT Comics For New Fans]]> The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been fixtures in global pop culture for nearly four decades. Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the titular heroes-in-a-half-shell have permeated every form of media, from TV cartoons to live action films and everything in between. Many of their stories, both on the page and screen, are fairly straightforward. But almost 40 years of history is a lot of canon to sift through.

As the Suicide Squad, their missions are infamous for their mortality rates. Meanwhile, on the television side is The A-Team. Being the Suicide Squad’s extreme opposite, its heroes are recognized for jumping into adventures with a near by-the-numbers action-packed success. Just as citable is their consistent survival rate in the face of these odds. Somehow, The Transformers combines the headline elements of these teams to effectively propel their own.

<![CDATA[REVIEW: IDW's Star Trek Strange New Worlds: The Illyrian Enigma #1]]> IDW has been publishing Star Trek comics for a few years, but this week sees the first tie-in to the newest, critically acclaimed series, Strange New Worlds. Set immediately after the events of season 1, The Illyrian Enigma #1 explores the crew of the Enterprise's reaction to the events of the finale. More than just a tie-in, the series promises to enrich the events of the television series with a script by Strange New Worlds' co-executive producer Kirsten Beyer and longtime Trek comics writer Mike Johnson. Megan Levens provides the line art, with colors from Charlie Kirchoff and letters by Neil Uyetake. The Illyrian Enigma #1 should help tide Trek fans over as they wait for the season 2 premiere but may leave readers unfamiliar with the series cold.

Worse still, the Heroes in a Half Shell have only managed to alienate their closest allies in recent months, although that looks like it is finally starting to turn around thanks to none other than Casey Jones. Not only has Casey begun to make amends with his oldest mutant companions, but he may also have even bridged the gap between them and their newest mutant rivals, and all without any of them even realizing it.

The previous issue focused on Shredder's granddaughter, Karai, who takes a page from the Rat King's playbook and tries to build her alliance. <![CDATA[REVIEW: IDW Publishing's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures #2]]> What started as a funny thought by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird became a dark storyline concerning four turtles brothers fighting to keep their city safe, collectively knowns as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Not too long ago, The Last Ronin showed an apocalyptic future where the last turtle fought to finish their life's mission. But between then and now, the franchise has tried to become more family-friendly to gain mainstream popularity. One of the foremost attempts was a light-hearted animated series that introduced many motifs and changes that have remained to this day. Written by Erik Burnham with artwork from Tim Lattie, colors by Sarah Myer, and letters from Jake M. Wood, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures #2 is a fun, nostalgic romp.

<![CDATA[Transformer's Arcee Deserves Her One-Shot Tribute Comic]]> The most famous female Transformer just got her rightful moment in the spotlight. IDW's one-shot: Transformers; Best of Arcee (2022) includes reprints of stories featuring the wisecracking Autobot, Arcee. The sharpshooting maverick first appeared in the 1986 animated film: Transformers The Movie. She quickly became a recurring character in film tie-in Transformers comics as well. Arcee often missed out on the limelight due to uncertainty around marketing a female Transformer to a male-dominated audience. When she was featured in past comics or animated films, she was pigeonholed into stereotypical female roles as the matron, the nanny, or as a romantic object for male Transformers.

<![CDATA[REVIEW: IDW Publishing's Crashing #1]]> Mainstream superhero comic books often show medical emergencies from the perspective of the heroes who either keep their wits or suffer severe setbacks. While the focus remains on the titular characters, the most neglected people in this scenario are the medical personnel experiencing their own ups and downs in a metahuman society. The creative team of writer Matthew Klein, artists Morgan Beem and Triona Farrell, and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou presents a medical drama based in a world where superpowered individuals have become nothing more than just political liabilities. <![CDATA[REVIEW: IDW Publishing's Godzilla Rivals: Vs. Battra #1]]> On the surface, Godzilla and the other Toho kaiju may seem like gigantic, powerful creatures hell-bent on the destruction of life and property on Earth. But, in reality, they truly represent the man-made calamities and putrid excess seeping into the natural world. Even the various franchise reboots have arrived following real-life disasters, with the movie Shin Gojira being an allegory for the Fukushima incident and the original 1954 movie drawing inspiration from the tragic nuclear bombings on Japan. Both a destroyer and a protector, Godzilla shares similarities with the benevolent Mothra's misanthropic twin, Battra. But the two juggernauts go to loggerheads over trivial matters.
