The CW canceled Gotham Knights after only one season, and fans are not happy. Hours after the news broke, droves of disgruntled viewers voiced their disappointment on social media.

The series focused on an unconventional group of heroes, consisting of Batman's young protégés and the offspring of his most formidable adversaries. While Gotham Knights received unfavorable reviews and faced challenges sustaining viewership over its current 11-episode run, the show earned a dedicated fan-following who believed the series had "something special."

Gotham Knights Fans Lament Its Cancellation

Some folks, who loved the LGBTQ+ inclusivity of Gotham Knights on screen and behind the camera, lamented the network for carrying the religious-themed series, The Chosen, for three seasons. The CW has been scrapping a lot of shows as of late, with the most recent causalities being The Winchesters, Kung Fu, and Walker: Independence. The Flash, the longest-running Arrowverse show on The CW, recently concluded its nine-season run.

In 2022, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow and Stagirl received their walking papers. Superman & Lois, Gotham Knights and Naomi were the only remaining DC shows on the network for a while. However, following the latest wave of cancellations, Superman & Lois is the only surviving DC superhero series picked up for a fourth season this June.

Micha Collins, who portrays Harvey Dent in the series, spoke about the fate of Gotham Knights in May. The actor thanks fans for their loyalty and efforts in advocating for a second season. "It's been kind of gratifying to see the extent to which the fans have organically rallied around the cause of preserving the show," he explained. Interestingly, Collins noted that the cast of Gotham Knights haven't really been campaigning for a second season.

Still, Collins had been impressed with the dedication of viewers. "Other than crossing our fingers and hoping that a decision that a second season is green-lit is made by the powers that be, we haven't really been beating the drum about that particular cause, so it's been really lovely to see the fans rallying to save Gotham Knights and to find that we, actors, on the show are kind of hitching our wagons to their horses," he said.

Gotham Knights airs new episodes of its final season Tuesdays on The CW.
