Final Fantasy XVI, the latest mainline installment in Square Enix's beloved franchise, introduces fresh combat mechanics, recurring characters and themes, a brand-new story, and plenty of equipment to collect and craft along the way. While it isn't an open-world title, FFXVI still provides players with plenty of opportunities to venture off the beaten path to collect items and gear.

Gotterdammerung is the best weapon in Final Fantasy XVI outside its New Game Plus, and although it doesn't become available until late in the story, it can still be very helpful with endgame content, especially the final boss. This powerful weapon comes with a whopping 375 Attack and Stagger power, so it's guaranteed to keep enemies on their toes. Once players craft it, not only will they have the best weapon in Final Fantasy XVI's normal game mode, but they'll also receive the "Half Past Twilight" trophy. Here's how to acquire the crafting recipe for Gotterdammerung, as well as how to obtain the ingredients necessary for crafting it.

How to Acquire the Gotterdammerung Crafting Recipe

Final Fantasy XVI Gotterdammerung

To craft Gotterdammerung, you'll first need to complete the "Blacksmith's Blues" series of quests to obtain Ragnarok, which is then used as Gotterdammerung's base weapon. Specifically, you can acquire Ragnarok upon completion of "Blackmith's Blues IV," so you'll need to complete the first three quests in the series leading up to it.

During "Blacksmith's Blues IV," you'll be tasked with traveling to Dravozd to help fend off a few waves of Akashic and a boss that are invading the small village. Once you've defeated every enemy, Zoltan and Blackthorne will rekindle their friendship, and Zoltan will give you a seal and mention a special sword. Head back to the Hideaway from there and speak to Blackthorne, then he and Zoltan will work together to craft Ragnarok. Once Ragnarok is complete, you'll also receive the design for Gotterdammerung.

How to Craft Gotterdammerung

To craft Gotterdammerung, you'll need Ragnarok, three Orichalcum, two Darksteel, and one Primitive Battlehorn. You may already have three Orichalcum at this point, but if you don't, there are plenty of ways to obtain it. Aside from Ragnarok, which is obtained after completing "Blacksmith's Blues IV," each of these components can be obtained by defeating various Notorious Marks via the Hunt Board. If the necessary marks are not available yet, try progressing the story a bit more and check the Hunt Board at a later time.

You can obtain your first Orichalcum by defeating "The Breaker of Worlds" Atlas, a Rank S Notorious Mark that can be found in the small circular area on the east side of Cressida, east of the Martha's Rest Obelisk and north of the Three Reeds Obelisk. "The Tricephalic Terror" Gorgimera, a Rank S Notorious Mark, also drops an Orichalcum, and it can be found in the southwestern corner of The Velkroy Desert.

You can obtain your last Orichalcum by completing either the "Under New Management II" side quest for Isabelle in Northreach or the "Duty Undying II" side quest for Cyril in Tabor. If you'd rather wait to complete those side quests, you can also acquire an Orichalcum by defeating "The Masterless Marauder" Behemoth King, a Rank S Notorious Mark that can be found just southwest of the Vidargraes Obelisk.

Each Darksteel can be obtained by defeating "Usher to the Underworld" Thanatos and "The Grim Reaper" Prince of Death Notorious Marks. Thanatos is a Rank A Notorious Mark that can be found in the middle of the main path in Titan's Wake, between the Kretov Obelisk and The Gilded Path Obelisk. The Prince of Death is a Rank A Notorious Mark found in the fields just northeast of Westwatch on the far western side of the Royal Meadows north of Northreach. Finally, you'll need to defeat Gobermouch, a Rank A Notorious Mark found in the small open area southwest of The Maudlin Mason in Eistla, to acquire a Primitive Battlehorn.
