Good Omens co-author Neil Gaiman proved nonplused with Amazon Prime Video's accidental leak of a crucial scene from the show's upcoming and highly anticipated second season.

Though Gaiman has been occupied with the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, he expressed his disappointment with the Good Omens Season 2 leak on Tumblr. "Amazon knew better and it still went out somehow," wrote Gaiman in response to a fan's question about the leaked scene. The author fielded several spoiler-free questions concerning the leak and has sided with the attitude of heartbreak and frustration prevalent among fans.

Good Omens' Season 2 Leak Spoiled the Premiere

The leaked scene contained a major spoiler for Good Omens' sophomore season and was evidently meant to be posted sometime after the series' July premiere. Gaiman, who has been hands-on with many television adaptations of his work, including American Gods and Sandman, stated that he was not subject to as many stages of the promotion process as usual due to his ongoing involvement in the WGA strike. However, Gaiman speculated that this oversight may have occurred regardless of whether he was consulted on marketing or not.

Good Omens fans have been as divided as heaven and hell in the wake of the leaked footage, an issue Gaiman likewise addressed on Tumblr. "I would greatly prefer that the leaked stuff goes away," the author stated, though he expressed sympathy with the fans who continued to spread the leaked scene. Gaiman dissuaded fans of infighting or calling those sharing the leak "jerks", he instead expressed an understanding of their excitement. Pandora's box had already been opened and Gaiman's one remaining hope to contain the leak would be that fans used the appropriate tags so that others could avoid being spoiled. Despite his attempts to cool down the Good Omens fanbase, many on social media have engaged in heated back-and-fourths about the ethics of sharing the leaked content.

Gaiman co-authored Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch alongside the late Terry Pratchett in 1990, but the source material found a new audience with Amazon's 2019 adaptation. Four years after its successful first season, fans have been clamoring for the continuation of Aziraphale and Crowley's story. An unlikely relationship between an angel and a demon takes center stage in roles inhabited by Michael Sheen and Doctor Who's David Tennant.

Season 2 of Good Omens premieres on Amazon Prime Video on July 28 for the spoiled and unspoiled masses alike.
