Each new mainline installment to the Final Fantasy franchise may take place in a different world, but that doesn't stop Square Enix from including recurring elements in each title like Chocobos, Moogles, summons like Ifrit and Shiva, and magic crystals. These elements happen to make yet another appearance in Square Enix's latest addition to the series, Final Fantasy XVI, along with another popular Final Fantasy staple, monster hunts.

Monster hunts continue to be some of the most exciting and rewarding side hustles in the Final Fantasy franchise, and they return in Final Fantasy XVI as Notorious Marks, dangerous beasts that can be tracked down and defeated for valuable rewards. These monsters are found scattered throughout FFXVI's world of Valisthea, in open fields and abandoned villages, and players will likely spend a significant amount of their time in the game hunting them all down and defeating them.

What to Know About Notorious Marks

Final Fantasy XVI Morbol

Notorious Marks come in all shapes and sizes, but the important thing to note is their rank. Each mark is ranked from C to S according to its difficulty and its rewards, with Rank C offering the least amount of challenge and reward, and Rank S offering the greatest. These unique monsters can be defeated as soon as they appear in the world, but it is recommended you come leveled and well-equipped for each battle, as they are some of the most difficult challenges to overcome in the game.

Upon defeating a Notorious Mark, you'll be rewarded a hefty amount of Gil and a form of reputational currency called Renown. At the Patron's Whisper in the New Hideaway, you can then obtain valuable rewards once you've acquired various amounts of Renown. These rewards can be anything from crafting materials to Orchestrion Rolls for the Orchestrion to some of the best gear the game has to offer, so it goes without saying that Notorious Marks should be a top priority if you expect to get ahead in the game.

To discover the location for each Notorious Mark, begin by visiting the Hunt Board in the New Hideaway. The Hunt Board is updated regularly as you progress through the main narrative, and while there are dozens of Notorious Marks to eventually find, they won't all become available until you've reached certain parts of the story. That being said, it's worth it to track down these marks as soon as they appear on the board. Check the Hunt Board after every major plot point and upon visiting any new major location, and you'll likely find that new hunts have become available.

Where to Find Every Notorious Mark

Final Fantasy XVI The Pack

Aside from a few Notorious Marks, the Hunt Board will almost always disclose a mark's general location below its description. That being said, the information the Hunt Board provides is typically rather ambiguous, and you'll find yourself needing to explore every nook and cranny to find each monster. Here are the specific locations for all 32 Notorious Marks, along with their ranks and rewards. Note that every Notorious Mark is arranged according to the order they appear on the Hunt Board, and not necessarily the order in which they may be discovered.
