My Hero Academia's unique world, and well developed characters have made it one of today's most popular Shonen anime. That said, it's a modern anime that borrows ideas from past anime, and doesn't always make the best decisions on the which anime tropes to use.

My Hero Academia isn't immune to using tired anime tropes and less than stellar plotlines. Whether it's characters that fans are tired of seeing or designs that don't make sense, there are certain parts of the series that haven't aged well, despite the series current 5 year run.

10 Fans Are Tired Of Mineta

Mineta finds a peep hole, MHA

It's hard to believe one of the heroes would be the most hated character in the series when there are villains who've killed people. That said, many fans have a good reason for despising this class 1-A student.

Not only has Mineta groped his female classmates, but he is constantly looking for ways to spy on them while they're naked. The pervy character trope was already old when My Hero Academia first aired, but with more women talking about their experiences with sexual assault, this type of behavior isn't funny at all, it's intolerable.

9 Midnight Is The Wrong Kind Of Sexy

Midnight Demonstrating Her Quirk To Students

My Hero Academia has managed to make both female and male characters perverts, which certainly isn't something the series should be proud of.

While Midnight isn't groping anyone, her behavior towards her students is incredibly inappropriate and creepy. Fans can forget that the students are children, but the fact of the matter is if Midnight was a real person she wouldn't be a hero, she would be in jail.

8 No One Stopped Midoriya From Hurting Himself

Though Midoriya eventually learned how to use One For All without breaking his bones, initially he was willing to maim himself in order to practice using his Quirk. It also doesn't help that All Might knew he would injure himself and didn't warn him or try to come up with a different solution.

All Might is a beloved character but looking back it's hard to believe he allowed Midoriya to be so self-destructive. Even if Midoriya was trying to protect others from villains or, in Todoroki's case, trying to protect him from himself, he shouldn't have been eager to harm himself to get stronger.

7 Bakugou's Previous Bullying Makes Him Hard To Like For New Fans

Bakugo and Deku at U.A.

Bakugou is a beloved character that is usually number one in the popularity polls for the manga. He had a rough start though and it can be difficult for new fans to understand why so many people like him.

He started off by bullying Midoriya and even tells him to jump off a roof so he can get a Quirk in his next life. That's definitely not the attitude someone who wants to be a future hero should have, but luckily he goes through a lot of changes throughout the series and ends up being a much better person.

6 Pixie-bob Intended To Groom Students

Pixie-bob from the Wild Wild Pussy Cats In MHA

While Pixie-bob initially seemed quirky and fun, her character was a little off in hindsight. During the summer camp, she became attached to Midoriya, Todoroki, and Bakugou because of their skills and she even stated that she wanted to "groom" them.

However, some fans may not have realized that she didn't want to groom them to be heroes, but romantically. For an adult to say she wants to "groom" children is definitely creepy and makes her character way less enjoyable, especially during a rewatch.

5 Yaoyorozu's Costume Doesn't Make Sense

A common discussion that comes up in My Hero Academia fan spaces is Yaoyorozu's costume, which makes sense considering how much of her body is exposed. While some like to use the excuse that her costume needs to be revealing for her Quirk, that's not really true. It's clear her costume is risqué for fan service.

This is a problem because she is meant to be a freshman in high school when the series starts. Not to mention, it's outside of Yaoyorozu's character to willingly choose a costume like this. Something with tons of zippers and tech would make a lot more sense for the smartest person in class 1-A.

4 Too Much Was Revealed In The Hot Springs

My Hero Academia class 1-A girls

If the villains hadn't attacked the summer camp, the heroes in training would have used that time to train their Quirks and learn more about each other. Although most of their summer vacation was spent training, they still had time to relax. A hot spring was made available to the students so they could heal their aching bodies after a long day of work.

For the most part, the anime and manga did a good job at censoring everything, but that wasn't the case for the female students, especially Ashido. After a failed attempt to spy on the girls, the audience was shown way too much. The girls are supposed to be minors and it's a little creepy that the series would show off their bodies.

3 The Heroes Rely On Freshmen To Fight Dangerous Villains

It's a common trope in anime that the world is often being saved by teenagers. My Hero Academia avoided the trope at first. Even when the students were under attack by villains, the adult heroes pulled all of the weight.

However, things changed during the later seasons, and more responsibilities are placed on Midoriya and the other hero students. Most of the events take place during the first few months of their time at U.A., it's ridiculous that the kids are expected to do so much.

2 Higakure Is Always Naked

Hagakure happy

Yaoyorozu's custom is pretty bad but it's nothing compared to Higakure who doesn't have one. When she's not wearing her school uniform she is walking around completely naked, which doesn't make sense story-wise.

Not only is it incredibly unsafe for her to walk around completely exposed, but other male characters are given costumes that work around their Quirks so there is no reason Higakure can't have the same. A pair of boots and gloves is simply not enough for this future hero and it's another example of unnecessary fan service.

1 Many Of The Women Are Poorly Developed

While My Hero Academia has done better than most anime when it comes to developing female characters, the series doesn’t always do a good job. Mirio and Tamaki were given a backstory during the Overhaul Arc, but Nejire wasn't given a backstory at all, which is disheartening considering she is also a member of the Big Three.

The same problem affects the heroes as well. Aizawa has tons of backstory, but Midnight, who is also a teacher has gotten little to no development. If My Hero Acamedia wants to be better, it has to give more attention to the females.
