Nicolas Cage gets his own Superman cover in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #19.

In celebration of Cage’s appearance as Superman in DC Studios' The Flash, artist Dan Mora and DC Comics collaborated on a new cover for Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #19, written by Mark Waid with art by Travis Moore and colors by Tamra Bonvillain. The special cover for the upcoming issue features Cage’s Superman wearing a brand-new costume, with Superman and Batman in the background. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mora spoke about drawing Cage as Superman for the cover.

"I grew up watching Nic Cage’s movies and am a big fan his," Mora said. "I was excited that he finally got a chance to play Superman in The Flash and I did my best to pay tribute to him in that role." He added, "Nic is a great actor that injects so much energy into his roles. You can’t help but imagine what his Superman would be like." Mora has previously created cover art featuring comedians for Batman/Superman World’s Finest covers, with one cover featuring comedian Jerry Seinfeld grabbing a cup of coffee with Superman.

Nicolas Cage's Superman Cameo in The Flash

It was revealed in May by director Andy Muschietti, prior to the theatrical release of The Flash, that Cage would appear in the film as Superman in a brief cameo. "Nic was absolutely wonderful," Muschietti said at the time. "Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it… I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon." He added, "He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic."

Cage was originally intended to play Clark Kent/Superman in Tim Burton's 1998 film, Superman Lives, which was ultimately scrapped by Warner Bros. and never saw the light of day. Kevin Smith, who penned the screenplay for Superman Lives, recently spoke out about the actor's cameo in The Flash. "For the earliest part of my career, I made lots of nods to pop culture," Smith said. "I can't tell you how happy it makes me at the point in my life whenever pop culture nods back at me."

Cage isn't the only major cameo to appear in The Flash. Other glimpses into alternate universes ranged from the George Reeves-led Superman to Adam West's Batman, Christopher Reeve's Superman, and Helen Slater as Supergirl.

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #19 goes on sale Sept. 19, 2023. The Flash is now playing in theaters.
