New Captain America: New World Order set photos have offered fans their first look at Liv Tyler's returning Betty Ross while teasing a major death.

The set photos were shared by various Instagram users, showing several cast members, including Tyler's Betty Ross and Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, attending a military funeral at a cemetery. The latter is also wearing a sling, suggesting that Sam Wilson will suffer a significant injury at some point in Captain America: New World Order. While details surrounding who the funeral was for remain under wraps, it is likely someone who had a significant connection to both Sam Wilson and Betty Ross, given their presence at the cemetery.

Filming on New World Order began earlier this month under the working title "Rochelle Rochelle," a reference to a fictional film that exists within the Seinfeld universe. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel is notable for being the first Captain America film to be headlined by Mackie's Sam Wilson instead of Chris Evans' Steve Rogers. New World Order is also the third MCU franchise to receive a fourth installment after the Avengers and Thor series. The fourth Captain America film is directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) from a screenplay written by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, who both worked on the Disney+ limited series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. New World Order will serve as a continuation of the 2021 limited series, which ended with Sam Wilson assuming the mantle of Captain America.

The Incredible Hulk's Connection to New World Order

Joining Mackie's Sam Wilson on his first solo adventure will be several characters from the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk, such as Tyler's Betty Ross, making her first appearance in the MCU since Phase 1. Tim Blake Nelson is also back as Dr. Samuel Sterns, with New World Order confirmed to feature Sterns as the villainous Leader, continuing a storyline that was first teased at the end of The Incredible Hulk. Betty's father, General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, now President of the United States, will also appear in New World Order, now played by Harrison Ford following the death of William Hurt.
