Even the likes of Thor and Spider-Man couldn't keep this ship from sinking -- "In the Heart of the Sea" opened this weekend to a disappointing $11 million debut, despite showing in a whopping 3,103 theatres. The film marks one of the worst openings in director Ron Howard's career, who gained Oscar wins for "A Beautiful Mind" back in 2002, and has continued to make commercial hits, like "Rush," which similarly starred Hemsworth.

According to Variety, "The Hunger Game: Mockingjay - Part 2," nabbed the top spot at the weekend box office for its fourth straight weekend in a row, raking in $11.3 million for Lionsgate, and bringing its total domestic gross to $244.5 million.

"The Good Dinosaur" came in third place this weekend, earning $10.5 million for Disney/Pixar, and increasing its total domestic gross to a modest $89.7 million.

In fourth place, "Creed" earned $10.1 million this weekend, bringing the film's total domestic gross to $79.3 million. Unlike "In the Heart of the Sea," "Creed" has proven to be a lasting power for its studio, Warner Bros., since its release on Thanksgiving weekend.

Rounding out the top five, Krampus made $8 million this weekend, raising the film's total domestic gross to $28.1 million -- a considerable success for its studio, Universal Pictures, which has had a hugely profitable year thanks to the release of international hits "Furious 7" and "Jurassic World."
