Fans will be pleasantly surprised to find a special addition at the end of Creed III when the film opens in Japan.

As per Anime News Network, Creed III, called Creed Kako no Gyakushū (Creed: Revenge from the Past) in Japan, will release a special anime at the end of the film. Michael B. Jordan, who stars and directs the film, revealed this announcement through his Instagram account. Yo Moriyama will direct the anime, with Katushiko Manabe and Kensaku Kojima writing the script. All three previously worked on the 2018 boxing anime series Megalobox.

Michael B. Jordan's Love of Anime

Jordan has been vocal about his love for anime, saying he watches anime every day. During the promotion for Creed III, the actor gave recommendations for anime new fans should watch as their starter series, including Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Hunter x Hunter and Dragon Ball Z. He has also spoken at length about how anime has inspired his performance in Creed III, such as pulling from Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto and My Hero Academia to shape Adonis and Damian's relationship. Other anime, such as Naruto: Shippuden and Hajime no Ippo, also inspired some of the fight scenes in the film.

Creed III is notably the first film in the Rocky series not to feature Sylvester Stallone, although he still participated in the film as a producer. Starring alongside Jordan is Jonathan Majors as Damian "Diamond Dame" Anderson, Tessa Thompson as Bianca Taylor-Creed and Wood Harris as Tony Evers. Creed III follows the turbulent friendship between Adonis "Donnie" Creed, played by Jordan, and Damian Anderson. Twenty years after his arrest, Dame is finally released from prison and reconnects with his old childhood friend Donnie who has since retired from boxing to focus on his family. However, their reconnection has unearthed painful memories from their childhood, bringing out feelings of guilt and resentment both sides are unwilling to face.

Creed III's Success and Future Anime Series

Creed III features Jordan in his directorial debut and has received praise for his direction. The film has also garnered acclaim for its fighting sequences and writing. The third film in the Creed series has grossed over $150 million in the US and Canada. Jordan has confirmed a fourth Creed film, saying, "I just want to expand the Creed-verse within reason, but definitely expect other things around Creed for sure." There are also plans for an anime series to expand the Creed universe.

Creed III opens in Japanese theaters on May 26. It premiered in US theaters on March 3.
