The following contains spoilers for The Flash, now playing in theaters.

Of the heroes highlighted in The Flash, perhaps the biggest breakout character is Sasha Calle's Supergirl. Many audiences have responded incredibly well to her portrayal of Kara Zor-El, though she sadly might not return to the big screen. This is due to the nature of the upcoming DC Universe movie reboot, which is set to wipe away the continuity of the previous decade of movies.

Nevertheless, there's still a way for Calle to play a "Supergirl" in the new DCU, even if she's not the same one seen in The Flash. After all, an alternate version of Supergirl is one of DC's most popular heroes, and there are tons of other takes on the Maiden of Might that could show up in James Gunn's rebooted shared universe. Here's how Sasha Calle can still return to represent the House of El in a new capacity.

Power Girl Is Sasha Calle's Best Chance of Playing Kara Again

The most popular "alternate" Supergirl is Power Girl, who debuted in the Bronze Age of Comics. This character's real name is Kara Zor-L, and she hailed from the world of Earth-2 where the Golden Age DC heroes resided. Coming to Earth as a young lady, she was taken in by her cousin Clark Kent and his wife Lois Lane. Possessing the same powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men and women, Kara took the name Power Girl on her Earth and became a superhero. She would work alongside her best friend Huntress aka Helena Wayne, the daughter of Batman and Catwoman, and cofound Infinity, Inc. - a sort of Teen Titans equivalent to the Justice Society of America. Modern stories would have Power Girl as the sole survivor of Earth-2, coming to the main DC Earth and maintaining the Power Girl title to differentiate herself from Supergirl, aka Kara Zor-El.

Portraying Power Girl is likely the main way in which Sasha Calle could "play" Supergirl once more given how the DC Universe is set to unfold. Supergirl will be getting rebooted in the movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with the heroine likely resembling her more traditional design if the film is truly based on the comic it's named after. Playing Power Girl would allow her a place of prominence in the future, especially if the Multiverse concept is revisited. Likewise, Power Girl would be different enough from the mainstream Kara Zor-El to not step on any narrative toes and repeat characterization. Plus, with how "dark and atypical" the DCU Supergirl will supposedly be, it would be interesting to see Sasha Calle portray a more flighty and upbeat Power Girl. This would ironically reverse her characterization as Supergirl in The Flash, all the while delivering on bringing her back.

Sasha Calle Could Return to DC Movies as One of Several Alternate Supergirls

Cir-El flying as Supergirl in DC Comics

Even if Calle isn't cast as Power Girl, there are still other alternate Kryptonians for her to play throughout the Multiverse. The most obvious of these would be another Supergirl that her character in The Flash was seemingly designed to resemble: Cir-El. This Supergirl also sported short black hair, making her visually distinct from the more classic Kara Zor-El. Cir-El was supposedly the future daughter of Clark and Lois, and though this turned out to not be true, the concept could be revamped for a movie.

Given that Superman will be rebooted in a movie literally titled Superman: Legacy, one way to portray said legacy is to briefly zoom into the future and showcase the Girl of Steel who comes after Clark Kent retires. Lara Lane-Kent is another child of Superman who takes the Supergirl name and resembles Calle's Supergirl, so having her play a take on that incarnation might also work. Perhaps the biggest glow-up would be for Sasha Calle's DCU debut to not be Supergirl, but rather Superwoman. Earth-11 was a genderbent world where the usually male members of the Justice League were instead female. Thus, Superwoman was that universe's version of Superman, with the Woman of Steel also sporting short black hair.

Considering the heroine looks exactly like the DC Extended Universe Supergirl while being something of an upgrade would make it the best kind of consolation prize for Calle. It would also spotlight a rather interesting yet overlooked alternate world within the DC Multiverse, especially since the multiverse trend in superhero movies is unlikely to die anytime soon. Given that her Supergirl role was itself an "alternate universe" take from the mainstream movies, this would be the right shade of red cape for the Last Daughter of Krypton.
