The Harry Potter franchise is incredibly complex and has painted a rich image of the wizarding society. One of the most important aspects of this world is the wizard family tree, which includes dozens of important families, as well as hundreds of iconic characters.

From the Weasleys to the Longbottoms to the intimidating and numerous Blacks, it's hard to keep track of every family in Harry Potter. More so, taking into account that movies, video games, and the Wizarding World website keep adding important information about these characters.

14 The Diggory Family

The Diggorys are a wizarding family that lives close to the Weasley family and travels with them to the Quidditch World Cup. They're known because the youngest member of the family, Cedric, died during the Triwizard Tournament.

Another important fact about the Diggory family is that one of their ancestors, Eldritch Diggory, was Minister of Magic from 1733 to 1747. Amos Diggory also works for the Ministry of Magic.

13 The Carrow Family

The Carrow family is one of the wizard families known for its association with dark magic and because they pride themselves on being pure-blood. In fact, Two of their most famous members are Alecto and Amycus Carrow, two of Voldemort's Death Eaters.

Alecto and Amycus are especially known for the brief period of time when they worked in Hogwarts and their vicious methods to punish the students.

12 The Bones Family

The Bones are a notable wizard family with strong connections with the Ministry of Magic. Amelia Bones, for example, was the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and she once presided over Harry Potter's disciplinary hearing.

Another important member of this family was Susan Bones, a Hufflepuff student in Harry's year who was a part of Dumbledore's Army. During the First Wizarding War, the Bones family was punished by Voldemort, who murdered several family members.

11 The Crouch Family

One of the oldest wizard families in Great Britain, the Crouch family produced one of the strongest dark wizards. This pure-blood family used to be very respected in the wizarding community.

However, while Bartemius tried to protect his family from infamy, he neglected his only son, Barty Junior, who would become Lord Voldemort's most loyal Death Eater. Eventually, Barty helped plan to kill Harry Potter in the Triwizard Tournament.

10 The Lupin Family

Hope Lupin was a muggle woman who eventually married Lyall Lupin, a wizard known for his expertise in magical creatures. Together they had Remus Lupin, one of the Marauders and Harry's third-year Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.

Remus Lupin eventually joined the Order of the Phoenix, where he met auror Nymphadora Tonks. They fell in love, got married, and had a son, Teddy Lupin. Sadly, Remus and Tonks died during the Battle of Hogwarts.

9 The Lovegood Family

The Lovegoods are one of the most eccentric families in the wizarding world, known for owning the Quibbler, an absurd magical magazine. They have interesting ideas, often believing in the existence of bizarre creatures that no one else knows.

The youngest member of the family, Luna Lovegood, assisted Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw and became close friends with Harry Potter. However, her father, Xenophilius, betrayed Harry to Voldemort, so he could get back his kidnapped daughter.

One of the most important families in the wizarding world, the Longbottoms are known for standing up to Voldemort and his allies. In fact, Neville's parents, Alice and Frank, were tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange.

Neville was also a great hero who faced Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts and was responsible for killing one of the Horcruxes, Nagini. Even Neville's grandmother, Augusta, fought in the Battle of Hogwarts.

The Gaunts were a pure-blood family who was prideful of their heritage, as Salazar Slytherin was one of their ancestors. However, Merope Gaunt fell in love with a muggle boy in her village, Tom Riddle, and enchanted him so he would love her.

Merope and Tom had a son together, Tom Riddle Junior (also known as Lord Voldemort), but Tom refused to raise him when he realized Merope's scheme.

The influential, wealthy, and pure-blood Malfoy family is particularly known for their involvement with the Dark Arts and Lord Voldemort. The Malfoys were one of the most powerful families in the wizarding world.

However, Narcissa Malfoy ultimately betrayed Voldemort and lied to him about Harry's death. From then on, Draco Malfoy lived an honest life, and his son, Scorpius Malfoy, became best friends with Harry's son, Albus Potter, in Hogwarts.

Even though the Weasleys are a pure-blood family, they don't possess any wealth, as they often ally with muggles. In fact, other pure-blood wizard families tend to humiliate them, such as the Malfoys. However, the Weasleys are some of the coolest characters in Harry Potter.

The noble and most ancient House of Black is one of the most emblematic and important wizard families. Most of the Black family members are related to other pure-blood families or even notable muggle families, such as Lestrange, Malfoy, and even Tonks.

Traditionally, the Black family is attracted to the Dark Arts, and they're usually placed in the Slytherin house, such as Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy. However, they're also famous for detractors of blood purity, such as Sirius Black and Nymphadora Tonks.

2 The Peverell Family

Even though the last name isn't alive anymore, their descendants live among the Potter family. In fact, Iolanthe Peverell inherited her invisibility cloak from his grandfather, Ignotus Peverell, and married Hardwin Potter, Harry's great-grandfather.

The Potters are related to some of the major families in the wizarding world, but they're especially known as descendants of the Peverell family.
