Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Jonathan Majors.

In an interview with Inverse, Mackie stated that he would not judge anyone until a verdict is reached in Majors' domestic violence case. "We're a country that was built on 'everyone is innocent until proven guilty,'" Mackie said. "That's one of the staples of this country. Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing. So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That's all I can say. It's crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty."

Majors' future as part of the MCU has been uncertain ever since he was arrested on March 25, 2023, on domestic abuse allegations. On that night, Majors reportedly got into a dispute with a woman in New York City. The woman, supposedly Majors's girlfriend at the time, was taken to the hospital for "minor injuries to her head and neck." Later reports claimed she also suffered lacerations on her right ear and finger.

Ever since the arrest, Majors and his lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, have remained adamant that the actor is innocent. Chaudrey also insisted that Majors has been a victim of racial bias. Appearing in court on May 8, she stated, "This is a witch hunt against Jonathan Majors, driven by baseless claims. Instead of dismissing the allegations in the face of the woman's clear lies, the DA has adjusted the charges to match the woman's new lies. To be clear, there are no new charges against Mr. Majors."

Majors himself made his first court appearance since being arrested on June 6. After the actor approached the bench and had a status conference with the judge, it was revealed that the case would be going to trial beginning on August 3.

Majors made his first appearance in the MCU in the Disney+ series Loki, in which he portrayed He Who Remains, a variant of Kang. The actor then showed off the true power of Kang the Conquerer in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which set him up as the MCU's next big threat. Majors was set to once again portray the villain in several future projects, including the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will likely also feature Mackie as Captain America. As of now, Majors' future within the MCU is reportedly still undecided, as Marvel Studios has remained silent amid the controversy.
