Super Mario Bros. revolutionized the world of video games with its inventive take on platforming and charming world. Now, the characters have made it to even greater heights thanks to the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. But the real winner of this huge transition to the big screen was none other than Princess Peach. Peach had been there since the very beginning and while kidnapped by Bowser countless times proved that she could hold her own without losing her elegance.

Princess Peach ruled the Mushroom Kingdom for years and was beloved by all those that knew her, especially the Toads and Mario. Unfortunately, she has never had a chance to shine on consoles compared to the many Mario and Luigi games that have been released. But the June 2023 Nintendo Direct revealed that Peach's time has finally come with a long overdue console game that will not only shine a light on Peach but also give her skills never seen before.

It's Been Years Since Peach Had Her Own Game

While Peach's upcoming Nintendo Switch game may feel like a first for the character, it's not the first time she's appeared in her own title. Super Princess Peach was released for the Nintendo DS in 2005. The story followed Peach who travels to the fabled land of Vibe Island where she must find a way to save Mario, Luigi and the Toads from Bowser and his minions. While it wasn't as widely known as Mario's many entries, it still managed to make its mark as a fun exploration of how Peach could handle a situation where she was the rescuer.

Super Princess Peach was a platformer like past Mario games that had a unique gimmick involving an artifact known as the Vibe Scepter. Peach could also use four moods to grant her abilities that could help her solve puzzles and aid against foes. The use of moods was a clever way that Super Princess Peach separated itself from other games set in Mario's universe. Plus, the inclusion of Perry the Parasol gave Peach a combat edge and a fun ally akin to Cappy from Super Mario Odyssey.

Now Is Princess Peach's Time To Shine

The Super Mario Bros. Movie showed a more active side to Princess Peach where she was both a princess and a warrior who fought alongside Mario and taught him how to survive her world. Fans have come to love her even more, so it's the perfect time for Peach to get a new game. And based on the teaser, it's clear Nintendo has pulled no punches in giving Peach the spotlight.

Peach's next adventure on the Nintendo Switch has revealed much in its teaser. For starters, it's brought the character back to the platformer genre in a brand new setting. Peach is performing her role as princess and hero with a flowery and mysterious ally, all against a theatrical backdrop. But the most exciting aspect will be the power-ups she will get, with one specifically changing her dress. Mario and his closest friends have featured in multiple games over the years, making Peach's single solo entry feel almost criminal. That said, Peach's next adventure may be what's needed thanks to her growing popularity, to kickstart a new, long overdue, era of Peach games for fans.
