The age of Krakoa may be coming to an end as Marvel announces a new X-Men event coming in 2023, "Fall of X."

Announced during Marvel Comics' "Next Big Thing" panel at New York Comic Con (NYCC) on Oct. 8, "Fall of X" is a new X-Men event following the ongoing "Destiny of X" event. While few details about the event are known at this time, the publisher teased, "The X-Men hoped Krakoa would last forever. Time to find out if they were right." Speaking at NYCC, editor Nick Lowe commented, "This is huge." He further explained that the X-Men will hold their third annual Hellfire Gala prior to the events of "Fall of X."

Writer Gerry Duggan -- who is also involved with Marvel's upcoming Dark Web event, which stars a number of X-Men characters alongside Spider-Man, Venom and more -- also commented on "Fall of X" when speaking at NYCC. "The X-Men have been winning for a really long time," he said. "How long did you think the bad guys were going to take it?"

Mutantkind Is Going Through A Lot

While the relocation to Krakoa -- a sentient, living island located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean open to any and all mutants, should they follow the Quiet Council's three basic rules -- was meant to serve as a tranquil, undisturbed time for mutantkind, the X-Men have found themselves having to face threat after threat. After dealing with Moira MacTaggert and her sinister plans for the island, the X-Men then found themselves in the crosshairs of the Eternals during Marvel's Judgment Day event. They've managed to fend them off, thanks to some help from the Avengers and the awakening of a Proegnitor; however, those events have also brought the raputre to the entire Marvel Universe.

Following Judgment Day, the X-Men will find themselves at the mercy of Mister Sinister in the upcoming Sins of Sinister event. Launching in 2023, Sins of Sinister sees the notorious X-Men villain turned relucant ally get everything he's ever wanted. A description of the event from Marvel reads, "This universe-melting X-event will introduce a horrifying timeline that makes the Age of Apocalypse look like the X-Men Swimsuit Special as Mister Sinister’s repulsive plans come to fruition. Currently playing a dangerous game with the very timestream of the Marvel Universe in the pages of Immortal X-Men, Sinister’s uncontrollable lust for domination will finally be satisfied but at what cost? It's the end of the world as we know it, but at least Sinister feels fine. For now. Can that last? Especially when we discover that he really is his own worst enemy..."
