In a new clip from Good Omens Season 2, the archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) wanders into Aziraphale's (Michael Sheen) bookshop with no recollection as to why he felt "something terrible" would happen to him if he didn't.

Like the official trailer for Good Omens Season 2, the clip doesn't reveal why Gabriel has amnesia, but he tells fellow angel Aziraphale over a hot beverage, "That's how I felt, that so long as I came here, that something terrible might not happen to me." Because of Gabriel’s missing memories, he doesn't know what terrible thing is about to happen, except that it's "incredibly awful" and he needed to give Aziraphale something important. However, much to the frustration of Aziraphale, Gabriel doesn't have this important object on his person, nor does he remember what it was. The clip ends with a worried and confused Aziraphale trying to process Gabriel's vague but ominous warning.

The TV History of Good Omens, Explained

Good Omens is a fantasy television series adapting the best-selling novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. Focusing on Aziraphale and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) as they try to prevent the Apocalypse, the series' first season premiered on Prime Video in 2019 to rave reviews from critics and high praise from fans. Along with Sheen, Tennant and Hamm, Season 1 also boasted an impressive all-star cast with the likes of Adria Arjona, Jack Whitehall, Doon Mackichan, Gloria Obianyo, Miranda Richardson, Michael McKean, Nick Offerman and others. Frances McDormand lends her voice to God, the narrator of the series.

While Season 1 adapted the novel's full story, Good Omens Season 2 goes beyond the source material to further explore the unlikely angel-demon friendship between Aziraphale and Crowley. This expansion involves the return of Hamm’s archangel Gabriel, who now disappears from Heaven without his memories after Aziraphale and Crowley successfully stopped Armageddon. In the prior season, Gabriel served as Aziraphale's strict supervisor and even tried to have the angel executed for going against Heaven's orders. Why Gabriel now turns to Aziraphale while in need remains unknown as of writing, including for the archangel himself.

Good Omens Season 2 will see the return of familiar faces from Season 1. Gaiman and Douglas Mackinnon return as co-executive producers and showrunners for the second season, with the latter also directing. The door is open for a third season of Good Omens though, since Gaiman previously revealed that Season 2 does not adapt the idea he and Pratchett had for a sequel. Gaiman tweeted in Oct. 2022, "We had a whole sequel plotted, but that's not Season 2. It will be Season 3 if we get there."

Good Omens Season 2 premieres July 28, 2023 on Prime Video.
