Harrison Ford recently commented on the advancements in filmmaking technology like CGI and artifical intelligence in his new film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

According to The Wrap, when Ford was asked about the use of artifical intelligence and CGI technology in filmmaking he said, "I think it’s not a question of the technology, it’s how you use it. I mean, we have the capacity to generate more enemies than anyone would ever face before. More airplanes in the sky than anyone would ever see. But what happens is you lose human scale. And if you lose that, you lose the audience’s ability to experience, consistent with the characters, the story that you’re telling. It’s too easy.”

Nevertheless, Ford was impressed with the artifical intelligence and CGI technology Lucasfilm used to de-age him back to his 40-year-old self for his upcoming film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. “It is 40-year-old Harrison Ford, and that’s why it looks so good,” he said. “I’ve been working for Lucasfilm most of my adult life. Every frame of the film[s] … that we’ve made together … could be mined with, here we go again, artificial intelligence. And they could find the right angle, the right light, so that it’s my mouth, my eyes, my face, married. It’s not photoshopped or anything. It doesn’t look that way. It’s real.”

Ford's comments come as the Writers Guild of America continues its months-long strike. A key issue among many in the WGA's negotiations with Hollywood's producers is the use of artifical intelligence in the entertainment industry and question of safeguards to protect writers from losing their jobs to artificial intelligence.

What Is Next for Indiana Jones and Harrison Ford?

The 80-year-old Ford recently said that he has no plans to retire from acting, however, this will be the last time he will be picking up his iconic hat and whip to portray famed archeologist Indiana Jones. Ford last played Indy in 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Many fans believed that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would be the final entry in the iconic franchise.

However, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences alike. Some of the biggest criticisms were aimed at the film’s implausible opening sequence and confusing plot. As it is the last time Ford returns to the screen as Indiana Jones, anticipation for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is high following the disappointing reception of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny scheduled to be released on June 30, 2023
