Peacock's upcoming Twisted Metal series from Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television continues to put together an impressive cast with the addition of Thomas Haden Church in a leading role.

Known for his portrayal of Flint Marko/Sandman in Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Church will take on the role of Agent Stone in the live-action Twisted Metal adaptation, Peacock announced. "Agent Stone [is] a cold and unyielding post-apocalyptic highway patrolman who rules the roads with a silver tongue and a twisted iron fist," the streamer said, explaining that the lawman will "kill anyone in his path" and "stop at nothing" to bring order back to the "Divided States of America."

This announcement comes hot on the heels of Twisted Metal's casting of Stephanie Beatriz in the role of Quiet. Known for her roles in Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Encanto, Beatriz will play a "ferocious, badass car thief" who is looking to "find her place in this dark, chaotic world" until her life becomes "clouded by her need for revenge." Peacock says Quiet will form an "unlikely" bond with another lead, John Doe, played by the newest Captain America, Anthony Mackie. Mackie who is also an executive producer on the project, plays the "smart ass, motor-mouthed Milkman [who has] no memory of his family or past."

Joining Mackie on the production team is comedian Will Arnett, of BoJack Horseman and Arrested Development fame. Arnett will also take over the voice of the infamous evil clown, Sweet Tooth, whose maniacal grin has graced the cover of every Twisted Metal video game. Michael Jonathan Smith, one of the execs responsible for the success of Netflix's Cobra Kai, is attached to serve as showrunner, with Kitao Sakurai (The Eric Andre Show, Bad Trip) serving as producer and director.

The Peacock announcement calls Twisted Metal a "global video game phenomenon" before it goes on to detail more aspects of the show, describing it as a "high-octane action comedy" about an "outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland." The show will be in a half-hour format, and Peacock seems to be staying true to the video games with promises of "savage marauders," "vehicles of destruction" and a "deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck."

In April, Mackie confirmed that production on the show was ramping up. "My new project Twisted Metal is gonna be on Peacock," the star of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier said. "And if you remember the video game, it's just us driving cars and blowing stuff up and trying to make it to New San Francisco."
