Warrior Nun began life on Netflix, premiering in 2020 to generally positive praise amongst audiences and critics. In the months after its release, it garnered a passionate fanbase, many of whom lauded the show for its complex characters and positive LGBTQ+ representation. Despite this success, Season 2 faced an uphill battle to retain that level of popularity. Following the second chapter's debut, Barry once again thanked fans for taking the series to the third spot on Netflix's most-watched charts and acknowledged that the series was given a marketing budget of $0. While the showrunner expressed his hopes that this saving would help Netflix greenlight a third season, this ultimately didn't come to fruition as Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger and the streamer ultimately opted to cancel the show.

Warrior Nun's Fight for Season 3

What followed was a passionate outcry from the fanbase, many of whom participated in a viral online campaign to see Warrior Nun return. Many enthusiasts blasted Netflix for its decision and expressed confusion that the show would be terminated despite its strong performance with some even accusing the platform of harboring anti-LGBTQ sentiments. Despite this, Barry remained optimistic about the possibility of Season 3, even stating in the early stages of the movement that plans were being made to save the show. "We ([production company Reality Distortion Field] and I) are looking into this. We will find out if there's a path to moving [Warrior Nun] somewhere else," the showrunner wrote. Many fans urged him to consider taking the series to AppleTV+ but at the time of writing it remains unknown whether the rival streaming service was responsible for picking up the series.
