Despite the potential cancelation that almost befell the film during production, it's finally releasing thanks to Netflix, with critics raving about the film's themes, heart, and charm. It isn't lost on Stevenson how much has happened since he first worked on the character as a high school student, and how much both he and Nimona have grown since then.

<![CDATA[Vivica A. Fox Teases The Interrogation Room and Reflects on Kill Bill]]> Over the years, plenty of crime shows have highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement in their pursuit of justice. There's plenty of drama inherent to the premise, leading to a litany of scripted and unscripted programs focusing on the interplay between the two sides of the same coin. The Interrogation Room focuses on the real stories that happen behind the scenes of investigations and the ways officers try to uncover evidence and unearth culprits.

<![CDATA[Nimona: How Eugene Lee Yang Saw Himself in Ambrosius Goldenloin]]> Nimona is far more than just the story of its titular character. At its core, the film is largely about Ballister Boldheart and the growth he goes through after being forced out of the world he's always known and embraced. A big part of that is the divide that grows between him and his love interest, Ambrosius Goldenloin, a champion of the realm who stands against him for much of the film's run-time even as he remains conflicted about him and their world.

Focusing on Nimona and Ballister Boldheart's unlikely partnership that slowly becomes a close bond (and a rebellious thorn in the side of the dangerous Institute that controls the fantastical realm), Nimona had a long road from development to release, surviving the shuttering of Blue Sky and being picked up by Netflix.

In the film, Ballister Boldheart goes through arguably an even greater transformation. Introduced as a future knight of the realm, a sudden and devastating event leaves Ballister framed for a vicious murder and on the run from everyone and everything he's ever known. In the process, the character gets the opportunity to confront the complexities of himself and others -- and truly discover what he is and who he wants to be.

She does so in the best of ways, retaining the chaotic charm of the original character while using the feature-length run-time of the film to explore more of the complexities of the mysterious shapeshifter. <![CDATA[Lonely Castle in the Mirror Review]]> Lonely Castle in the Mirror is a well-meaning anime film. The latest film to come to North America courtesy of GKIDS tackles teenage issues that have haunted generations with a deft hand, infusing its central character with a resonant and impactful arc that largely works in an understated way. It's occasionally gorgeous, and it knows when to pull back and let the characters do the heavy lifting. It has the makings of something great -- just not necessarily a movie. The problem is that the anime quickly overloads itself with too large of a cast and too deliberate of a pace. The central arc gets muddied and even dull when it tries to expand to the rest of the story. While Lonely Castle in the Mirror is an occasionally effective tearjerker, adapting the story to a longer-form medium like television might have better served its central ideas and characters.

<![CDATA[The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Director Reflects on Launching the Epic Show]]> In bringing the world of Middle-earth created by J.R.R. Tolkien to life for the Prime Video original series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, it was director and executive producer J.A. Bayona who led the charge in helming the series' first two episodes. Establishing a world before the events of The Hobbit, the series brings in several kingdoms facing the return of evil across Middle-earth. In the midst of all this epic world-building, Bayona keeps sight of the characters at the heart of Tolkien’s realm, giving them a human story to follow along, regardless if they're actually human themselves.
