Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-'s protagonist was brought to life in a stunningly accurate cosplay.

Shared on Reddit by Cero_Cosplay, the Zack Fair costume creates a hyperrealistic version of the character's SOLDIER uniform and features his iconic dark, spiky hairstyle. While the full weapon is not entirely visible in the image, the handle of his Buster Sword, which Final Fantasy VII's mainline protagonist Cloud Strike eventually inherits, can be seen over the cosplayer's shoulder.

Final Fantasy VII's Global Impact

Developed for the original PlayStation by Square -- Square Enix's precursor company -- Final Fantasy VII dropped in 1997 and is considered by many to be one of the greatest video games ever made. Not only did it receive multiple Game of the Year titles from various publications, but it also went on to win the Console Adventure Game of the Year and Console Role Playing Game of the Year categories at the first 1st Annual Interactive Achievement Awards (now known as the D.I.C.E. Awards). Moreover, it helped popularize the Japanese role-playing game genre (JRPG) on a global scale. The story follows Cloud and his fellow members of the eco-terrorist organization AVALANCHE as they attempt to take down Shinra Electric Power Company, a megacorporation with dark secrets.

Crisis Core, which was initially launched in 2007, serves as a prequel to the original. Its narrative greatly fleshes out Zack's character, who mainly appears in flashbacks in Final Fantasy VII, and provides insight into the motivations and backgrounds of Shinra and the villainous Sephiroth. Like the first game, Crisis Core performed very well with both critics and fans, going on to win Best PSP Game at Gamespot's awards and receiving multiple other nominations. A remastered version of the game, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion was released towards the end of last year and is playable on several consoles, including Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC.

The mainline Final Fantasy VII game also received a remastered reboot in 2020. At the beginning of the month, a surprise trailer for the sequel dropped, confirming that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is slated for an early 2024 release. The reboot will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

The trailer has provided fans and gamers ample insight into what the new title has in store and seemingly reveals that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will change some of the franchise's lore. One particular line may indicate one beloved character's arc will be very different from their journey in 1997's Final Fantasy VII.
