Tifa Lockhart is ready to throw down in an epic Final Fantasy VII cosplay.

Created by Moon Child Cosplay, an image of the costume was shared on Reddit and shows the owner of the 7th Heaven bar punching upward. A childhood friend of Cloud Strife and member of the eco-terrorist organization AVALANCHE, Tifa serves as one of Final Fantasy VII's main characters and helps stop villainous Sephiroth from taking over the planet.

Tifa Is a Fan-Favorite Character

The brawler has become one of the franchise's most recognizable and popular characters; as such, she has appeared in multiple spinoffs and tie-in Final Fantasy VII projects. Most notably, Tifa played a significant role in the 2005 computer-animated movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Written by Kazushige Nojima, the story sees Cloud and Tifa try to stop three individuals from using sick children to resurrect Sephiroth.

Tifa has also inspired a wealth of fan-made content, particularly cosplay. Beyond Moon Child Cosplay's interpretation, Princess Rinoa shared their take on the powerful fighter with a costume that accurately recreates her iconic outfit of a crop top and black skirt. Moreover, one Reddit user spent over $800 to make a mask that recreates the character's face, which some online commentators described as embodying the uncanny valley.

Released in 1997, Final Fantasy VII went on to majorly boost the original PlayStation sales and help popularize the Japanese role-playing genre (JRPG) globally. Many considered it to be one of the best video games ever created, and the title received enough positive recognition upon release to support that claim. Not only did it receive multiple nominations or win categories at the 1st Annual Interactive Achievement Awards (now known as the D.I.C.E. Awards), but it was also named Game of the Year by several institutions. In 2004, Final Fantasy VII placed fourth on Retro Game's Top 100 Games list.

Towards the end of last year, a remastered version of Crisis Core, Final Fantasy VII's prequel, was released, and it was revealed at this year's Summer Game Fest that the next entry in the franchise will launch in early 2024. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which is a direct sequel to 2020's Final Fantasy VII Remake, will present an adventure that, according to creative director Tetsuya Nomura, will be enjoyable for both returning players and those unfamiliar with the series. Developer Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be available for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
