Netflix’s The Sandman Season 2 may feature the introduction of Norse gods including Thor, Loki, and Odin.

Per What’s on Netflix, the streamer is reportedly casting five actors to portray the powerful characters in the form of Thor, Loki, Odin, King Auberon, and Queen Titania, who will be joining Morpheus in the next chapter of The Sandman. The outlet described Thor as a storm god with a body of a mountain and a thunderous voice. He’ll "happily threaten anyone in his path," as he’s someone who’s "brusque, rude, [and] quick to anger." As for the other four, their character descriptions are still being kept under wraps.

In Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel series, Thor, Loki, and Odin were first introduced during the "Season of Mists" arc, where they visited Morpheus in the Dreaming to acquire the key to Hell in an attempt to stop Ragnarök. Unlike their Marvel counterparts, the godly trio has a different appearance in The Sandman comics. As for King Auberon and Queen Titania, they are known as the rulers of the fairies. The royal couple first debuted during the "Dream Country" arc, in which they appeared as Morpheus’ guests to William Shakespeare’s newest play.

The Sandman Season 2 Begins Production

Set photos featuring Tom Sturridge in an all-black attire have surfaced online, confirming that production on The Sandman Season 2 has officially begun. This comes after nearly a year since the fantasy drama premiered its 11-episode first season in August 2022. Besides Sturridge, Season 1 favorites Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, and Donna Preston will also reprise their respective roles as Death, Desire, Lucifer, Lucienne, and Despair.

Besides Norse gods and royal fairies, The Sandman Season 2 is expected to include the rest of Dream’s Endless siblings including Delirium, Destruction, and Destiny, who have not yet been cast at the moment. In November 2022, Gaiman confirmed that the next installment will also see the introduction of Wanda Mann, who’s known as the groundbreaking transgender character from the comics. It’s still unclear if other characters from Season 1 would also return including Patton Oswalt’s Matthew the Raven and Jenna Coleman’s Johanna Constantine.

The Sandman follows the story of Morpheus/Dream, who’s known as the Lord of dreams and nightmares. Season 1 featured Dream reclaiming his kingdom and power after he had been held captive by an occult leader for more than a hundred years. Official plot details for Season 2 have not yet been revealed, but rumors suggest that it might adapt the "Brief Lives" arc from the comics, in which Delirium plays a central role.

The Sandman Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix, while the release date for Season 2 hasn’t been announced yet.
